Toyota Launches Pixis Van BEV for Japan’s Last-Mile Logistics

Toyota is electrifying one of Japan’s most important workhorses. Starting today, Toyota Motor Corporation will begin sales of the Pixis Van BEV, a fully electric version of its popular kei commercial van, designed specifically for daily business use and last-mile delivery.

The Pixis Van has long been a familiar sight on Japan’s narrow streets, supporting small businesses, tradespeople, and delivery services. With the new battery-electric model, Toyota aims to preserve everything that made the Pixis Van practical—while adding the benefits of smooth, quiet, and efficient electric driving.

Built for a Full Day of Work

Despite its compact kei-car footprint, the Pixis Van BEV delivers a cruising range of up to 257 km, the longest among kei commercial electric vans. That range is enough to cover a full day of deliveries or on-site work without constant charging anxiety.

The electric drivetrain also transforms the driving experience. With no engine vibration and extremely low noise levels, the van allows relaxed conversations inside the cabin and minimizes disturbance during early-morning or late-night deliveries—an important advantage in residential areas.

Jointly Developed for Real-World Use

The Pixis Van BEV was jointly developed by Toyota, Suzuki, and Daihatsu, combining deep kei-vehicle manufacturing expertise with Toyota’s electrification technology. Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation (CJPT) also contributed to the planning, ensuring the vehicle meets the real demands of efficient last-mile logistics.

Kei commercial vehicles play a massive role in Japan’s transport ecosystem, accounting for roughly 60% of the country’s commercial vehicle fleet as of late 2025. Electrifying this segment is a key step toward reducing emissions in everyday urban transport.

Electric Performance with Confidence

At the heart of the Pixis Van BEV is Toyota’s e-SMART ELECTRIC system. Power is delivered through a rear-mounted eAxle that integrates the motor, inverter, and reduction gear into a compact unit. The system produces 47 kW of output and 126 Nm of torque, delivering strong initial acceleration and stable rear-wheel-drive traction—even when fully loaded or driving on hills in stop-and-go traffic.

A slim 36.6 kWh lithium-ion battery is mounted under the floor, lowering the vehicle’s center of gravity and improving stability. Structural rigidity has been reinforced, and a newly designed rear suspension improves ride comfort while maintaining precise road contact.

The Pixis Van BEV comes standard with rapid charging capability. When the low battery warning activates, the van can charge to approximately 80% in about 50 minutes using a fast charger. For overnight charging, a 6 kW normal charger can fully recharge the battery in roughly six hours, making it easy to integrate into daily business routines.

A Mobile Power Source on Wheels

One of the standout advantages of the electric Pixis Van is its 1,500W external power supply (AC 100V), included as standard equipment. This allows users to power tools, charge devices, or run equipment directly from the vehicle—whether parked or even while driving.

The van also supports Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functionality, enabling it to supply electricity to a home during power outages or emergencies when paired with a compatible V2H system. In disaster-prone regions, this effectively turns the vehicle into a mobile energy storage unit.

No Compromises on Cargo Space

Toyota has ensured the BEV version retains the practicality of the gasoline model. The Pixis Van BEV offers up to 350 kg of payload capacity and the largest cargo area in its class, measuring 1,920 mm long, 1,270 mm wide, and 1,250 mm high. A low cargo floor height of just 630 mm makes loading and unloading easier, even during repeated stops.

Work-friendly features include overhead storage, wipe-clean water-resistant seat upholstery, and energy-efficient seat heaters that help preserve driving range in cold conditions.

Designed for Comfort and Clarity

Inside, the Pixis Van BEV focuses on usability. Automatic climate control, USB charging ports, and a clear multi-information display keep drivers informed about battery status and power consumption at all times. Toyota will offer two package options tailored for business users, simplifying the ordering process.

Pricing and Availability

The Toyota Pixis Van BEV is priced at 3,146,000 JPY (approximately €17,122) including tax. Toyota plans to sell around 50 units per month in Japan, targeting businesses looking to electrify their fleets without sacrificing practicality.
