Nio Firefly Spiaggia Edition Brings Southern Italian Beach Style to China

Nio’s Firefly brand has launched a new limited-edition version of its electric city car, drawing inspiration from the beaches of southern Italy.

Called the Firefly Spiaggia Edition, the special model is limited to just 666 units in China and is priced at 135,800 yuan (€17,400). Customers can also purchase the vehicle under Firefly’s Battery as a Service (BaaS) program for 95,800 yuan (€12,300), plus a monthly battery rental fee of 399 yuan.

Orders are now open, with display vehicles arriving at Firefly stores across China. The special edition carries a significant premium over the standard Firefly, but the changes are focused almost entirely on its distinctive design.

Firefly Spiaggia Edition gets a coastal makeover

The Spiaggia Edition takes its name from the Italian word for “beach” and is designed around the relaxed atmosphere of a southern Italian beach club.

A new Breeze Blue exterior paint gives the Firefly a bright coastal appearance, while aqua blue and sunlit orange cabana-style stripes run across the body. “Spiaggia Club” lettering on the side further emphasizes the special edition’s beach-inspired theme.

The exterior design is completed by pure-white multi-spoke wheels with matching center logos. The combination of blue paint, white wheels and colorful graphics gives the limited-run EV a considerably different appearance from the regular Firefly.

Inside, the same theme continues with the Summer Siesta interior. Beige upholstery is combined with sunlit orange details on the steering wheel, seat stitching, door panels and cupholders.

The seats feature light beige surfaces with orange stitching tracing the shoulder areas, while a full-length floor mat carries the same cabana stripe pattern used on the exterior.

Firefly says more than 512 meters of embroidery and 64,000 stitches have been used throughout the cabin. Satin embroidery and heat-pressing techniques are used to add texture, while embossed logos appear on the headrests.

An exclusive Amber Sea user interface and special wallpapers also bring the Breeze Blue, Aqua Blue and Sunlit Orange color scheme into the vehicle’s digital cockpit.

No mechanical upgrades

Despite its higher price, the Spiaggia Edition does not receive any announced powertrain or battery upgrades.

The special edition uses the same 42-kWh battery as other Firefly versions and has a claimed 420-kilometer CLTC range.

That means the additional cost is primarily paying for the limited production run and extensive exterior and interior design changes rather than additional performance or range.

At 135,800 yuan (€17,400), the Spiaggia Edition is 16,000 yuan (€2,050) more expensive than the Firefly Free Edition, which starts at 119,800 yuan (€15,370). It is also 10,000 yuan (€1,280) above the Glow Edition, priced from 125,800 yuan.

Under the BaaS model, however, the initial purchase price falls to 95,800 yuan (€12,300), although owners then pay the ongoing monthly battery rental fee.

Sixth Firefly special edition

The Spiaggia Edition is the sixth special edition launched by Firefly.

The brand has previously introduced limited versions including Nomadic Maillard, Night Creature, Pegasus Rhapsody, Retro Futurism and Pixel Player.

The Pixel Player Edition, launched in June, was also priced at 135,800 yuan but was limited to only 333 units. Firefly said that version sold out in less than eight hours after orders opened.

Firefly also introduced its design-focused Halo series in July. The first model, the Habitat Edition, was priced at 133,300 yuan.

The steady introduction of small-batch variants gives Firefly a way to generate attention around a relatively young brand with just one production model. It also provides an opportunity to gauge how buyers respond to different styling concepts and price premiums.

Firefly targets the premium small EV market

The Spiaggia Edition highlights Firefly’s broader strategy of positioning itself as a more premium small electric car brand.

Rather than changing the underlying mechanical package, the latest model uses colors, graphics, materials and detailed craftsmanship to create a more exclusive product.

The approach could prove useful for Firefly as it seeks to establish a recognizable identity in China’s increasingly competitive electric vehicle market. Limited production also creates scarcity, while the frequent introduction of new themes keeps the single-model lineup in the spotlight.

For buyers who prioritize distinctive styling over additional performance, the Spiaggia Edition offers a particularly colorful take on Firefly’s compact EV.

With only 666 examples available, the latest special edition is likely to attract buyers looking for something more exclusive than the regular Firefly.
