General Motors is taking another step toward improving the electric vehicle ownership experience with the launch of Energy Pass, a new charging platform designed to streamline public charging access across multiple networks through a single app.
Integrated directly into the MyChevrolet, MyCadillac, and MyGMC mobile apps, Energy Pass eliminates the need for drivers to juggle multiple charging accounts, apps, passwords, and payment methods. Instead, GM EV owners can access and manage charging sessions from one centralized interface.
One App for Thousands of Charging Stations
Public charging has long been one of the more fragmented aspects of EV ownership. Drivers often find themselves switching between different charging network apps, creating new accounts, and entering payment details just to start a charging session.
Energy Pass aims to solve that problem by providing seamless access to several of the largest charging networks in the United States.
At launch, the platform supports Tesla Supercharger, IONNA, and Electrify America charging stations, with ChargePoint and EVgo integration scheduled to follow soon. According to GM, these networks collectively account for nearly 70% of all DC fast chargers across the country, in addition to a large number of Level 2 charging stations.
The unified platform allows drivers to:
– Access participating charging networks through a single account
– Start and stop charging sessions directly from the app
– Monitor charging progress in real time
– View charging history and receipts in one place
– Take advantage of exclusive charging discounts available through select networks
The simplified experience is designed to reduce charging-related friction and make public charging as convenient as possible for GM EV drivers.
Plug & Charge Brings a More Seamless Experience
A key feature of Energy Pass is support for Plug & Charge technology. After completing a one-time enrollment and payment setup, drivers can simply plug in their vehicle and begin charging without interacting with a charger screen or opening an app.
The charging session automatically authenticates and processes payment in the background.
Plug & Charge is currently available at IONNA Rechargeries and EVgo locations. GM plans to expand the feature to ChargePoint stations later this summer.
For vehicles equipped with a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, Plug & Charge functionality will also be available at Tesla Supercharger locations. GM says an over-the-air software update arriving later this year will enable Tesla Supercharger Plug & Charge capability for NACS-equipped vehicles already on the road.
Supporting GM’s Transition to NACS
The launch of Energy Pass aligns with GM’s broader transition to the North American Charging Standard, which is rapidly becoming the dominant charging connector across the EV industry.
The recently introduced 2026 Cadillac OPTIQ and 2027 Chevrolet Bolt already feature native NACS charge ports. GM expects all new 2027 model-year electric vehicles from Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac to launch with NACS connectors by the end of this year.
The move will provide direct access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network while enabling a more seamless charging experience through features such as Plug & Charge.
Building a Better EV Ownership Experience
Energy Pass represents more than a new app feature. It serves as the foundation for a growing charging ecosystem that GM plans to expand with additional charging networks, enhanced functionality, and new customer benefits over time.
As EV adoption continues to grow, simplifying public charging remains a key priority for automakers. By bringing multiple charging providers together under a single interface and account, GM is making it easier for drivers to find, access, and pay for charging wherever their journeys take them.
With Energy Pass, the company is helping transform public charging from a fragmented process into a more integrated and user-friendly experience.
