Daimler Buses has been confirmed by Hamburger Hochbahn AG as the sole supplier of up to 350 fully electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro and eCitaro G city buses.
Over the next five years, the new solo and articulated buses are to be delivered to the northern German city of Hamburg. Hamburger Hochbahn AG was particularly impressed by the low total cost of ownership (TCO) and the ease of repair of the eCitaro over the entire long service life of the electric buses to be supplied by Daimler Buses.
Daimler Buses is enthusiastic about this exclusive contract as a provider of sustainable e-bus solutions. The Mercedes-Benz eCitaro once again received the “Electric Bus Champion” award in 2024 and will be the perfect partner for Hamburger Hochbahn AG on its journey to convert its entire bus fleet to environmentally friendly e-mobility.
The Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro epitomises city bus electromobility at the highest level. It offers the proven Citaro platform, modular battery, charging and drive technology, a functional yet attractive design, and an unrivalled level of safety. It is also embedded in a comprehensive e-mobility system. As part of its sustainability strategy, Daimler Buses offers both electromobility and the appropriate digital services completely ex works from a single source.
The new eCitaro buses of Hamburger Hochbahn AG are equipped with the NMC3 battery generation, which guarantees a high emission-free range. They have a whole host of assistance systems such as Preventive Brake Assist and Sideguard Assist with functions that, in some cases, go far beyond what is required by the General Safety Regulation (GSR) of the European Union. The state-of-the-art CO2 automatic climate control system with sophisticated thermal management ensures a pleasant and comfortable climate.
Hamburger Hochbahn AG has been awarded the German Sustainability Award 2024. This award recognises pioneering projects for environmental and social commitment to the transformation towards a sustainable future. Hamburger Hochbahn AG received this important award for its role as a pioneer of sustainable mobility in Germany, in which the transition of its public bus transport to electrified vehicles plays a key role. By the beginning of the 2030s, the entire bus fleet is to be converted to emission-free drive systems. Hamburger Hochbahn AG relies 100 percent on green electricity to operate its electric buses.
