The Flemish public transport operator De Lijn, headquartered in Mechelen, Belgium, is fully committed to electromobility as part of its corporate strategy.
With the upcoming winter timetable, the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro K electric buses will serve the 5.2 kilometre long newly named “Altstadtlinie” (old town line).
Daimler Buses presented the series-production version of the Mercedes‑Benz eIntouro for the first time at the Busworld 2025. The eIntouro is the first battery‑electric intercity bus from Daimler Buses.

Daimler Buses has successfully completed the summer testing of the Mercedes‑Benz eIntouro. For a total of around five weeks, test personnel trialled the battery-electric inter-city bus at extreme temperatures of up to 45 degrees Celsius in Andalusia in southern Spain.
Daimler Buses plans to have battery‑electric coaches in its portfolio by the end of the decade; with fuel-cell coaches set to go into series production in the next step.
The entire charging system, with 28 charging points and a charging capacity of up to 180 kW, was installed by Daimler Buses as general contractor.
The bus company Bayer from Ehingen is adding five Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro buses to its fleet. With the all-electric city buses, the company is now expanding its pioneering e-mobility offerings in the region.
