Renault is making the Renault 5 E-Tech electric more versatile for 2026, with increased driving range, an upgraded entry-level version, new personalization options and additional technology.
The latest updates affect both battery options, while the Renault 5 Five is also set to receive a more powerful and efficient powertrain. The updated electric hatchback will also gain new connectivity features and Google’s Gemini AI assistant.
Renault 5 E-Tech Electric Gets More Range
Aerodynamic improvements, including a lower body and redesigned rearview mirrors, combined with optimized battery electronics, help increase the Renault 5 E-Tech electric’s WLTP range.
The 40 kWh Urban Range battery, available on Evolution and Techno versions with a 90 kW (120 hp) electric motor, now delivers up to 315 km (196 miles) of WLTP range, up from 312 km.
The larger 52 kWh Comfort Range battery also gets a significant improvement. Available with Evolution, Techno, Iconic Cinq and Roland-Garros versions and paired with a 110 kW (150 hp) motor, it now offers up to 430 km (267 miles) of WLTP range, compared with 410 km previously.
The additional range makes the Renault 5 E-Tech electric more competitive among small electric cars, particularly for buyers who want an affordable EV that can handle more than just urban driving.
Renault 5 Five Gets a New 110-HP Powertrain
The entry-level Renault 5 Five is also getting a substantial upgrade.
The current Five uses a 95 hp motor and 40 kWh battery. In the coming weeks, Renault plans to replace this setup with a new, compact and lightweight 80 kW (110 hp) electric motor from the same family used by the Twingo E-Tech electric.
The updated Five will use a 36.5 kWh LFP battery featuring cell-to-pack technology. Renault says the combination is designed to improve energy density while keeping the battery compact and lightweight.
Despite its smaller battery, the new Renault 5 Five is expected to achieve up to 305 km (190 miles) of WLTP range.
Performance should also improve. The new model can accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, giving the entry-level Renault 5 a more responsive feel in city traffic.
Fast charging is another important upgrade. Alongside its 6.6 kW AC onboard charger, the new Five will come standard with an 80 kW DC fast charger, allowing owners to use public rapid-charging infrastructure.
New Renault 5 Colors and Customization Options
Renault is also expanding the personalization choices available for the Renault 5 E-Tech electric.
A new Flame Red exterior color will be introduced across the Five through Iconic Cinq trim levels. Metallic Schist Grey will also be available from Evolution through Roland-Garros versions.
Additional customization options include a Starry Black roof and Red or Warm Titanium roofline.
Techno and Iconic Cinq versions can also be equipped with Techno wheels featuring an optional Gold finish. New Vibrant5 and Hyper5 roof and wing decals are available through Renault’s configurator.
Inside, the Iconic trim receives a small visual update, with heathered blue upholstery replacing the previous heathered yellow finish.
More Technology Inside the Renault 5
Renault is adding several technology upgrades aimed at making the Renault 5 E-Tech electric easier and more convenient to use every day.
The e-call system is now compatible with 4G mobile networks, while a new cooled magnetic wireless smartphone charger using the Qi2 standard makes its debut.
The wireless charger can restore up to 50% of a smartphone’s battery capacity in one hour while helping prevent overheating.
Another change is Renault’s new Smart driving mode, which replaces the previous MySense setting. The system automatically switches between Eco, Comfort and Sport modes based on driving conditions and driving style.
For example, Sport mode can provide a quicker response when overtaking, while Eco mode can be selected automatically when the driver slows down in lower-speed areas.
Drivers can still manually change driving modes through the OpenR Link touchscreen or by using voice commands. Because the Multi-Sense button is now used less frequently, it has also been removed from the steering wheel.
Renault 5 Adds More Connectivity and Gemini AI
The Renault 5 E-Tech electric is also gaining a new connectivity package that includes 2 GB of mobile data per month for three years, or for the duration of an eligible Mobilize Financial Services lease.
Renault says the allowance is enough for everyday use of popular in-car applications, including approximately 40 hours of standard-quality music streaming or up to three hours of video streaming per month.
Google’s Gemini AI assistant is another major technology addition. It will arrive through an optional over-the-air update to Google Assistant.
Unlike a conventional voice assistant that relies on specific commands, Gemini is designed for more natural, conversational interactions. Drivers can ask questions, complete more complex tasks, interrupt the assistant during a response and switch between languages during conversations.
The feature brings the Renault 5 further into line with the growing number of connected EVs using AI-powered voice technology.
Renault 5 E-Tech Electric Continues to Evolve
With more range, a stronger entry-level powertrain, standard DC fast charging on the Five, new customization options and additional connected technology, the Renault 5 E-Tech electric is becoming a more capable small EV.
The improvements are particularly significant for the entry-level Five. Its new 110 hp motor, 36.5 kWh LFP battery and 305 km WLTP range should make the least expensive version more appealing to buyers who want an electric city car without giving up longer-distance usability.
The updated Renault 5 E-Tech electric range will be showcased at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, which takes place from October 12 to 18, 2026.
