MAN eTGX Proves Megawatt Charging Capability in Real-World Winter Test

MAN Truck & Bus has taken a major step toward the future of zero-emission freight, publicly demonstrating the megawatt charging capability of its electric trucks under harsh winter conditions in Sweden.

At the Kempower MCS Live Winter Days 2026 in Norrköping, the all-electric MAN eTGX showcased stable and reliable performance using the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) — a key technology set to transform long-haul electric transport across Europe and other Tier 1 markets.

The live demonstration took place at the facilities of Kempower customer Alfredsson’s in Norrköping, Sweden. The event was designed to test the technical interoperability between electric trucks and high-power charging infrastructure — one of the most critical elements for scaling megawatt charging across commercial fleets.

Operating in low temperatures and under real-world load requirements, the MAN eTGX delivered controlled charging performance and secure communication between vehicle and charger. According to MAN, both hardware and software integration performed reliably, confirming the maturity of the Megawatt Charging System for future series production.

For fleet operators in Europe and North America — where winter reliability is essential — this demonstration provides a strong signal that MCS technology is ready for industrial deployment.

The Megawatt Charging System is designed specifically for heavy-duty electric trucks, enabling significantly faster charging compared to current CCS-based solutions. This translates into shorter charging times, increased vehicle uptime, improved route flexibility and lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

For long-haul operators, particularly in Germany, the UK, Scandinavia, the US, and Canada, megawatt charging is expected to remove one of the final barriers to full electrification of freight corridors.

Production Starts in 2026

Both the MAN eTGX and the MAN eTGS can already be ordered with the MCS option. Series production of this megawatt-capable equipment variant is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026.

By moving early on MCS integration, MAN is positioning itself at the forefront of heavy-duty electric transport, aligning with Europe’s CO₂ reduction targets.

Industry-Wide Collaboration

The Kempower MCS Live Winter Days 2026 brought together vehicle manufacturers, infrastructure providers, industry associations and media representatives. The event highlighted the importance of cross-industry cooperation to accelerate megawatt charging deployment.

MAN has confirmed it is systematically testing compatibility with leading charging station manufacturers to ensure seamless interoperability — a crucial factor for rapid market adoption.

A Clear Signal for Sustainable Freight

With this successful winter demonstration, MAN sends a clear message: megawatt charging is no longer theoretical — it is operational and nearing large-scale rollout.

As production-ready MCS trucks arrive in 2026, electric heavy-duty transport is moving decisively from pilot projects to mainstream fleet operations.

For operators planning their zero-emission transition strategy, megawatt charging may soon become the new industry standard.
