Ford Introduces LFP Batteries and Longer Range for Explorer and Capri EVs

Ford is making its all-electric Explorer SUV and Capri sports crossover more compelling than ever, especially for buyers choosing the more affordable Standard Range versions.

With a new battery option and an upgraded electric motor, both models now deliver longer range, stronger performance, and greater charging flexibility—all without stepping up to a higher trim.

The updated powertrain adds up to 70 km of extra range, pushing both EVs comfortably beyond the all-important 400 km mark. The Explorer Standard Range now offers up to 444 km on a full charge, while the Capri Standard Range stretches to 464 km, representing an improvement of up to 17 percent. For everyday driving, that means fewer charging stops and more confidence on longer trips.

Performance sees a noticeable boost as well. Power increases to 190 PS, with torque climbing to 350 Nm, allowing both models to sprint from 0–100 km/h in 8.0 seconds. In real-world terms, drivers can expect quicker acceleration, smoother motorway merges, and a more responsive feel behind the wheel.

A major part of the upgrade is Ford’s move to lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology for these versions. LFP batteries are known for their durability and lower reliance on high-demand raw materials, but the biggest benefit for owners is peace of mind. Drivers can regularly charge to 100 percent without worrying about long-term battery degradation, making daily use and trip planning much simpler.

According to Jon Williams, General Manager of Ford Blue and Model e in Europe, the update reflects Ford’s focus on continuous improvement—using smart technology to deliver more capability while keeping electric mobility accessible.

These improvements underline Ford’s ongoing commitment to continuous development across its electric lineup. The goal remains clear: deliver electric vehicles that stay true to Ford’s design DNA, offer engaging driving dynamics, and are ready for real-world adventure—without compromise.
