Starting today, Californians who are thinking of buying an electric car will receive a $5,000 rebate courtesy of California’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP).
Cars like the all-electric Tesla Roadster qualify for a $5,000 rebate, and the money can be applied towards passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and neighborhood-electric cars.
Rebates are available for consumers who purchase or lease new eligible alternative fuel vehicles between April, 2010 and April 30, 2012 or until funding runs out. Applicant and vehicle eligibility requirements are specified in the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project Implementation Manual (pdf format).
Funded by the California Environmental Protection Agency’s Air Resources Board (ARB) and administered statewide by the California Center for Sustainable Energy, the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project “benefits the citizens of California by providing immediate air pollution emission reductions and stimulating development and deployment of the next generation of zero-emission and plug-in hybrid light-duty and commercial vehicles,” according to the project’s website.
Approximately $4.1 million was allocated for the program.
