Japanese automaker Honda has officially launched the new Super-ONE compact EV in Japan, adding a more playful and performance-oriented option to its growing electric vehicle lineup.
Positioned as a compact electric hot hatch, the Honda Super-ONE was developed under the “e: Dash BOOSTER” concept, with a focus on combining everyday practicality with a more engaging driving experience. The new model is based on the Honda N-ONE e:, but rides on a wider dedicated chassis and introduces several design, technology, and performance upgrades aimed at making EV ownership more exciting.
Honda says the “Super-ONE” name reflects its ambition to go beyond traditional mini-EV expectations while delivering a uniquely Honda driving experience.
The Super-ONE joins Honda’s expanding EV family in Japan, which already includes the N-VAN e: commercial EV, the N-ONE e: city car, and the new Insight crossover EV. Honda also confirmed plans to launch an electric version of the popular N-BOX in 2028.
Sales in Japan began on May 22, with pricing starting at 3,390,200 yen, or approximately $21,300. The model is also headed to the UK this July under the name “Super-N,” where it is expected to start below £20,000.
Sportier Design With Wider Stance
The Honda Super-ONE adopts a more aggressive appearance compared to the standard N-ONE e:. Prominent blister fenders, wide tires, and a low stance give the compact EV a sportier personality, while dedicated aerodynamic elements improve airflow and driving stability.
Inside, Honda fitted unique sports seats with blue asymmetric accents and a horizontally oriented dashboard designed to improve visibility and driver focus. The cabin also maintains the practical packaging solutions found in Honda’s N Series models, including versatile rear seats with dive-down and tip-up functionality.
Lightweight EV With Five Drive Modes
One of the key highlights of the Super-ONE is its lightweight construction. Weighing just 1,090 kg, Honda claims it is among the lightest vehicles in its class.
The EV features a widened tread and large-diameter tires to improve cornering stability and handling. Drivers can choose between five drive modes: ECON, CITY, NORMAL, SPORT, and BOOST.
CITY mode enables Honda’s one-pedal driving system, allowing acceleration, deceleration, and complete stops using only the accelerator pedal.
BOOST mode significantly increases output from 47 kW to 70 kW, delivering sharper acceleration and a more dynamic driving feel.
To enhance driver engagement further, Honda developed a simulated 7-speed transmission paired with Active Sound Control technology that generates virtual engine sounds inside the cabin. The experience is designed to mimic the sensation of driving a traditional sporty gasoline-powered hatchback while retaining the benefits of an EV.
Visual effects also change in BOOST mode, with ambient lighting shifting from blue to purple and a dedicated triple-meter display appearing on the instrument panel.
Range, Charging, and V2L Capability
The Honda Super-ONE delivers a WLTC-rated driving range of 274 km (170 miles) on a single charge.
Charging times are relatively competitive for a compact EV. Regular AC charging takes around 4.5 hours, while DC fast charging can replenish the battery in approximately 30 minutes.
Honda also equipped the Super-ONE with vehicle-to-load functionality through its Honda Power Supply Connector. The system can provide up to 1,500W of external AC power, allowing owners to run appliances outdoors or use the vehicle as an emergency backup power source.
Bose Audio and Google Built-In
The Super-ONE becomes the first compact Honda model in Japan to offer a Bose Premium Sound System as standard equipment. Developed in collaboration with Bose Corporation, the setup includes eight speakers and a large subwoofer mounted in the cargo area.
The EV also comes standard with a 9-inch Honda CONNECT infotainment system featuring built-in Google services, including Google Maps integration and smartphone connectivity features through Honda Total Care Premium.
With its combination of compact dimensions, sporty character, modern technology, and relatively affordable pricing, the Honda Super-ONE could become one of the more interesting small EV launches of 2026 — especially for buyers looking for something more entertaining than a typical urban electric car.
