DS N°8 Takes The Challenge Of Distance On The Highway Witout Any Recharging

Travelling a long way in an electric car without worrying about range or charging, is a key element illustrating DS Automobiles’ ambition to embody the Art of Travel. On various journeys from 450 km to more than 500 km, DS N°8 has demonstrated the reality of its ability to travel long distances on major European roads without needing to charge.

On the highrway, in real-life conditions, DS N°8 has taken up the challenge of unrestricted long-haul electric mobility, making it possible to stop only when you decide to and not when you’re forced to.

To demonstrate the reliability of DS N°8’s range, DS Automobiles undertook a series of test runs through several major European countries where the Brand is established. These routes, carried out at road-legal speeds on dual carriageways and highways, made it possible to assess the car’s true performance in wide-ranging conditions.

Four typical routes were chosen to illustrate this approach, all carried out in keeping with the maximum permitted highway speeds (typically 120 to 130 km/h depending on the country):

– Paris – Lyon (France): 450 km, 10% state of charge (SOC) and 60 km range at the finish,
– Munich – Koblenz (Germany): 506 km, state of charge (SOC)  at the finish also 10% and 56 km, confirming the consistency of the range despite a slightly longer distance,
– Madrid – Denia (Spain): 470 km, final state of charge (SOC)  20% and 128 km, demonstrating increased efficiency in favourable driving conditions,
– Melfi – Nera Montoro (Italy): 450 km, state of charge (SOC)  at the finish 28% and 195 km, illustrating specially optimised energy management.

These results highlight DS N°8’s ability to maintain a comfortable range on journeys of more than 450 km on the highway, while adapting to the varied road profiles and different driving conditions.

All routes were completed with a battery initially charged to 100%, without any charging on the way, confirming the reliability of DS N°8’s range. These journeys demonstrate not only the robustness of the WLTP combined cycle (750 km), but also above all the vehicle’s true ability to travel 500 km on the highway in various conditions – a promise now confirmed by field experience.

For longer highway journeys, DS N°8 allows you to recover up to 200 km in just 10 minutes at a 160 kW or more charging point. The in-car EV Routing system predicts stops and prepares the car and prepares the battery for recharging, relieving the driver’s mental load. An fluid and controlled experience, at the service of the Art of Travel from DS Automobiles.

DS N°8 features a powertrain developed in France, with an elecric motor developed by Emotor and assembled in Trémery (57, Grand Est region) and a “Long Range” battery designed by ACC and produced in the gigafactory of Billy-Berclau (62, Pas-De-Calais region), two components resulting from French industrial expertise that contribute to its energy efficiency.

This performance is boosted by a deep work on aerodynamics, integrated at the design stage, making it possible to optimise airflow and reduce drag, in order to achieve a record Cd of 0.24 dm2.

DS N°8 thus combines controlled fuel consumption, benchmark range, dynamism, comfort and refinement, for a smooth and serene electric driving experience, designed for long journeys.
