1,031 LEAFs and 723 Volts Sold in September

Nissan LEAF has outsold GM’s Chevrolet Volt for the sixth consecutive month (April, May, June, July, August and now September).

Sales of the 100-percent electric Nissan LEAF totaled 1,031 units in September, which is a relatively big improvement over the 931 units delivered in July, but still down on high achieved in August – 1,362.

Nissan says it sold 7,217 LEAFs since its December 2010 U.S. debut.

Sales of the plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volt increased 240 percent in September, from 302 units in August to 723; about six times as much as the 125 sold in July. That brings the grand total of Volts sold since it entered production in late 2010 to approximately 4220.

GM expects to sell around 16,000 Volts by the end of the year in all 50 states now that the plant has re-opened. In 2012, Volt is expected to reach a global production capacity of 60,000 vehicles, with 45,000 of to be sold in the U.S.
