Jaguar Type 01 Interior Revealed: A Bold New Luxury EV Takes Shape

Jaguar’s transformation into an all-electric luxury automaker is entering a crucial phase, with the production-ready Type 01 offering the clearest look yet at the brand’s new design philosophy.

Almost two years after Jaguar stunned the automotive world with the dramatic Type 00 concept, the company has revealed the production Type 01’s interior ahead of its full unveiling in New York on October 6.

The Type 01 is expected to become Jaguar’s flagship electric grand tourer and one of the most important models in the company’s modern history. With more than 1,000 horsepower, three electric motors and an expected price above $130,000, it is aimed firmly at the high-end luxury EV market.

Jaguar Type 01 Interior: Inspired by the Type 00

The Type 01’s cabin retains many of the most distinctive ideas introduced by the Type 00 concept, but translates them into a more production-friendly environment.

The centerpiece is a long “central spine” that stretches between the front and rear seats. Rather than ending behind the front passengers like a conventional center console, it separates all four individual seats and extends through the entire cabin.

Jaguar describes the central armrest as a “signature art piece,” with a brass-like finish that echoes the concept car.

The four-seat layout reinforces the Type 01’s luxury grand tourer positioning, while concealed storage compartments, discreet ambient lighting and hidden technology are intended to create a cleaner, more sophisticated atmosphere.

Jaguar has also incorporated its new Leaper logo into the front door panels, while frameless windows and a large panoramic glass roof add to the premium feel.

Fewer Screens, More Focus on the Interior

While many modern EVs continue to add increasingly large displays, Jaguar has taken a different approach with the Type 01.

There is no passenger-side infotainment screen, and the production car also does away with the enormous central touchscreen found in many rival EVs.

Instead, the driver gets a large curved digital instrument display positioned behind a distinctive dual-spoke steering wheel. A smaller vertical touchscreen sits in the center of the dashboard and handles functions including climate control and audio.

The Type 01’s minimalist approach is particularly noticeable compared with the original Type 00 concept. The concept’s passenger display has disappeared, replaced by a clean, flat surface that contributes to the cabin’s yacht-inspired aesthetic.

Climate and media controls are positioned on a slim display mounted on the center console, while physical window controls remain on the doors.

The steering wheel carries over much of the concept’s distinctive design, including chunky spokes and a lower slatted section inspired by the Type 00’s exterior details.

Jaguar Type 01 Gets a Digital Rear-View System

One of the Type 01’s most unusual features is what it does not have: a conventional rear windshield.

Like the Polestar 4, the Jaguar uses a rear-facing camera system instead of a traditional rear window. There is also no conventional windshield-mounted rear-view mirror.

Instead, Jaguar’s ClearSight digital rear-view display is positioned centrally at the base of the windshield, roughly level with the side mirrors.

The system is designed to provide the driver with an unobstructed rear view while helping maintain focus on the road ahead. However, drivers accustomed to conventional mirrors may need some time to adapt to the setup.

From Type 00 Concept to Production Type 01

Jaguar’s decision to stop production of its existing lineup and reposition itself as a luxury EV brand attracted significant attention when the company unveiled the Type 00 concept in 2024.

The Type 00 introduced an intentionally dramatic design featuring a long hood, imposing front end, minimalist surfaces and distinctive horizontal lighting elements.

The Type 01 appears to retain much of that visual identity, although its proportions are more conventional for a production four-door grand tourer.

Early images show a similarly long hood and bluff front end, while the production car appears to have a more traditional saloon profile than the Type 00. Horizontal rear lighting elements are also visible beneath the camouflage.

The lack of a conventional grille or fake air intakes further emphasizes the Type 01’s electric powertrain.

Jaguar says the interior and exterior were designed together, with elements such as the hood and slim dashboard intended to blur the boundary between the outside and inside of the vehicle.

Over 1,000 HP From Three Electric Motors

The Type 01 is not being positioned as a luxury EV that sacrifices performance for comfort.

Jaguar says the flagship will use three electric motors producing more than 1,000 horsepower combined. The powertrain will be supported by rear-wheel steering and an advanced torque-vectoring system designed to improve both agility and stability.

The electric powertrain is based on Jaguar’s new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), which was developed specifically for the company’s next generation of electric vehicles.

The architecture is separate from the technology being developed for the upcoming Range Rover EV, despite both brands operating under the same parent company.

With three motors, four-wheel drive and more than 1,000 hp, the Type 01 is expected to combine high-performance acceleration with the long-distance comfort expected from a luxury grand tourer.

Jaguar Type 01 Price and Reveal Date

Jaguar has not yet announced official pricing for the Type 01, but expectations point to a starting price above $130,000.

The 1,000-hp-plus electric grand tourer is set to make an appearance during Monterey Car Week before its full public reveal in New York on October 6.

The Type 01 represents far more than another new electric car for Jaguar. It is the first production model created under the company’s new design and brand strategy, making its reception particularly important as Jaguar attempts to establish itself in the ultra-luxury EV market.

With an unusual four-seat interior, a full-length central spine, digital rear-view technology and more than 1,000 horsepower, the Type 01 is shaping up to be one of the most distinctive new luxury electric cars in years.
