Chery International UK has reached a major milestone in its rapid expansion across Britain, recording a combined 6.73% market share in April 2026 according to the latest registration figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
The achievement marks the first time the company’s growing portfolio of brands has surpassed the 6% threshold in the UK market, underlining the increasing appeal of its electrified vehicle range among British buyers.
The strongest performance came from JAECOO UK, which secured a 2.60% market share with 3,877 registrations during April. OMODA UK followed closely behind with 3,275 registrations and a 2.19% share, while CHERY UK contributed 2,900 registrations, accounting for 1.94% of the market.
Combined, the three brands delivered one of the most notable performances by a new automotive group entering the UK market in recent years.
Strong Momentum Continues After Record March
The latest results build on a record-breaking March 2026, when the company benefited from the UK’s ‘76’ registration plate change period. Chery International UK says the continued momentum reflects rising consumer awareness of its expanding line-up of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electrified models.
OMODA first entered the UK market in August 2024, followed by JAECOO in January 2025. CHERY joined the line-up in August 2025, completing the current three-brand structure now operating across Britain.
The company’s strategy has focused heavily on localisation, operating under the slogan “In somewhere, For somewhere, Be somewhere.” That approach has included the rapid expansion of a nationwide retail network alongside a focus on high-specification vehicles, modern styling and accessible electrified technology.
Electrified Technology Driving Growth
A key part of Chery International’s UK strategy is its vertically integrated development model. The company develops and manufactures its own core powertrain technologies in-house, helping accelerate the rollout of hybrid and plug-in hybrid models tailored for European markets.
Further launches are already planned throughout 2026 as the company looks to strengthen its position in the growing electrified vehicle sector.
Gary Lan, CEO of Chery International UK, described the latest results as a significant milestone for the business.
“Edging close to 7% market share in such a short space of time is a significant milestone for our business in the UK,” said Lan. “What we are seeing now is the result of a long-term strategy coming together.”
He also highlighted the importance of the company’s expanding retailer network and growing product portfolio in building consumer trust and supporting long-term growth in Britain.
LEPAS Brand Set for UK Arrival
Chery International’s UK expansion is set to continue later this year with the introduction of LEPAS, a new European-focused electrified vehicle brand.
The LEPAS L8 has already been confirmed as the first model planned for the UK market, with arrivals expected in the third quarter of 2026. The new brand is expected to strengthen Chery International’s presence in the increasingly competitive hybrid and electric SUV segments.
With OMODA, JAECOO, CHERY and soon LEPAS operating under the same umbrella, Chery International appears determined to establish itself as a serious long-term player in the UK automotive market.
