Alpine has chosen the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 13 June, the world’s biggest endurance race, to reveal its first sporty 5-seater electric hot hatch: the Alpine A290.
Previewed with the ultra-sporty A290_β (A290 beta) show car last year, it will be Alpine’s first all-electric car.
The A290 is closely related to the recently revealed Renault 5 E-Tech, and uses the same CMF-B EV modular EV platform from the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance.
During the winter testing in February, Alpine presented the A290 prototype with its definitive bodywork and validated dimensions: length 3,990 mm, width 1,820 mm, height 1,520 mm, wheelbase 2,530 mm.
Alpine has given a glimpse of the interior as well. Inside, there is an exclusive Alpine sport steering wheel in Nappa leather, with a flattened surface and a center point, reminiscent of motorsport that is so much a part of the brand’s DNA. It includes three essential functions borrowed from Alpine’s Formula 1 steering wheels: OV (Overtake), RCH (Recharge) and Drive modes with one-touch access.
Production of the A290 has been confirmed by Alpine to be taking place at a plant in Douai, France.
