Toyota Teams with Japanese Power Companies to Offer New PHV Connected Power Service

Toyota will be teaming with five Japanese power companies―Tohoku Electric Power Co., Ltd., TEPCO Energy Partner, Inc., Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc., Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., and Shikoku Electric Power Company, Inc. to offer the new PHV Connected Power Service.

This service will provide customers of the new Prius Prime PHV, with various benefits depending on their vehicle EV-mode cruising distance, as well as the amount of home charging.

This service seeks to reduce the environmental impact of vehicles by encouraging customers who drive the new Prius Prime to use the car’s EV-mode for longer driving distances. This is part of Toyota’s coordination with other industries using the mobility service platform, which is a core element of our connected strategy.

Specifically, the EV-mode cruising distance, amount of electricity charged in one’s home, as well as other information which are acquired by the data communication module (DCM) that is installed in the Prius Prime, are provided by Toyota to the respective power companies for customers who have submitted service applications. Customers can check this information themselves via the related websites, and depending on the content, power companies are able to award customers with points. Customers can in turn, use these points to pay their power bills, or exchange them for various products.

Information about the PHV Connected Power Service will be provided to customers via a dedicated website that will be launched simultaneously with the new Prius Prime, and dealers will provide fliers which introduce the contents of services offered by individual power companies.
