July 2012 Plug-in Electric Vehicle Sales [updated]

Chevrolet Volt has managed once again to outsell Nissan’s LEAF and Toyota’s Prius Plug-in in monthly sales figures for the U.S. plug-in electric vehicle market.

1,849 Chevrolet Volt units were sold last month, up from 1,760 in June and up from 125 in July 2011. Its all-time high was in March, with 2,289 units sold. For the year, GM has sold 10,666 Chevrolet Volts.

Sales of the Nissan LEAF continued to decline, as the Japanese automaker sold only 395 LEAFs in July, down 58 percent over July 2011. For the year, Nissan has sold 3,543 LEAFs, down 26.3 percent.

Deliveries of the Prius Plug-in Hybrid totaled 688 units in July, down from 695 in June, down from 1,086 in May and 1,654 in April. For the year—February through July—Toyota has sold 5,021 Prius Plug-in Hybrids in the U.S.

Honda reported selling 7 Fit EVs in July. Only 1,100 Honda Fit EVs will be available for lease-only in key markets starting in California and Oregon over the next 18 months, after which availability will expand to East Coast markets in early 2013.

UPDATE
Ford Motor Co. sold 38 Focus electric cars in July, more than half from the 89 sold in June. To date 135 Focus Electric cars have been sold.

Fisker, Tesla and Coda didn’t provide sales numbers.
