Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the all-new VLE, an electric luxury people mover designed to combine limousine-like comfort with the practicality of a highly configurable van. Positioned as a premium electric alternative for families, executive transport operators and active lifestyles, the VLE introduces a new modular architecture, advanced software and an interior that can carry up to eight adults.
The VLE is one of the first vehicles built around Mercedes-Benz’s new electric van strategy, bringing together long-distance range, rapid charging, premium ride quality and a level of digital technology typically associated with the brand’s passenger cars.
With an estimated WLTP driving range of more than 700 kilometers (435 miles), energy consumption below 20 kWh per 100 km and DC charging capability above 300 kW, the VLE is engineered for both everyday use and long-distance travel.
The VLE 300 electric launches in two main trims: one with the Advanced Plus Package and another in EXCLUSIVE specification with the Premium Plus Package.
Both versions come standard with features typically reserved for flagship luxury vehicles, including AIRMATIC air suspension and the panoramic Sky View roof. Higher trims also add standout tech such as rear-axle steering, a head-up display, MBUX Superscreen, and DIGITAL LIGHT.
Pricing starts at €82,260 for the five-seat version, while the six-seat model starts at €82,712.
Later this year, Mercedes-Benz plans to expand the lineup with more trims, additional equipment packages, and seating layouts ranging from five to eight seats.
A lower-priced standard VLE 300 will also arrive later in 2026, with prices starting at €70,464 for the five-seater and €70,916 for the six-seat model.
Up To 435 Miles of Range and 15-Minute Fast Charging
The Mercedes-Benz VLE uses an 800-volt electrical architecture and a new 115 kWh usable NMC battery pack. According to Mercedes-Benz, the electric luxury van can add up to 355 km (221 miles) of WLTP range in 15 minutes when connected to a suitable high-power DC charger.
The entry-level VLE 300 electric uses a 203 kW front-mounted permanently excited synchronous motor and offers more than 700 km of WLTP range. The more powerful VLE 400 4MATIC produces 310 kW and adds a rear electric motor for all-wheel drive capability.
Mercedes says the VLE 400 4MATIC can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds, giving the large electric vehicle performance that is unusual for a people mover of this size.
Aerodynamics also play an important role. The VLE has a drag coefficient of 0.25, an impressive figure for a vehicle with seating for up to eight passengers and an overall length of 215.9 inches.
A Luxury Van That Drives Like a Limousine
Mercedes-Benz has focused heavily on ride comfort and urban maneuverability. The VLE is available with AIRMATIC air suspension, which continuously adapts damping at each wheel and maintains a consistent ride height regardless of passenger or cargo load.
At speeds above 68 mph, the suspension automatically lowers the vehicle by 0.5 inches to reduce aerodynamic drag and improve stability. Drivers can also lower the vehicle for easier entry and exit or raise it for additional ground clearance on rougher roads.
Rear-axle steering is another key feature. With up to seven degrees of rear-wheel steering, the VLE has a turning circle of approximately 37.5 feet, comparable to the Mercedes-Benz CLA. That should make the large electric van significantly easier to park and maneuver in tight urban areas.
Flexible Seating for Up To Eight Adults
The VLE’s biggest advantage may be its adaptable interior. Mercedes-Benz offers seating layouts for six to eight passengers across three rows, with multiple individual seat and bench configurations.
Manual seats use the new Roll & Go system, which allows them to slide along rails, lock into place, fold or be removed. Each seat includes four integrated wheels, allowing it to be rolled away after removal rather than carried.
For models equipped with electrically adjustable rear seats, Mercedes introduces Remote Variable Rear Space. This feature allows the seating layout to be adjusted through the infotainment system, rear-seat controls or the Mercedes-Benz app.
Four preset configurations are available:
– Baggage moves seats forward to maximize cargo capacity.
– Executive creates maximum rear legroom for chauffeur-driven use.
– People & Baggage balances passenger room with luggage space.
– Standard restores the default seating layout.
With all seats removed, the VLE offers up to 152 cubic feet of cargo space, making it suitable for sports equipment, luggage, business use or weekend trips.
The available Grand Comfort Seat adds features such as massage, lumbar support, calf support, wireless charging, cupholders and additional cushions.
MBUX Superscreen and 31.3-Inch Rear Display
The VLE introduces a major step forward in digital cabin technology. The optional MBUX Superscreen spans the dashboard with three displays placed beneath a single glass surface.
The setup includes a 10.25-inch driver display, a 14-inch central touchscreen and an optional 14-inch front passenger display. The passenger screen can be used for streaming, gaming and apps, while the driver receives focused driving information.
Rear passengers can access the MBUX Rear Space Experience, centered around a retractable 31.3-inch panoramic display integrated into the headliner. The 8K screen supports split-screen use, video streaming, gaming and video conferencing, while an integrated eight-megapixel camera expands its functionality.
An available Burmester 3D Surround Sound System with 22 speakers and Dolby Atmos is designed to turn the cabin into a rolling entertainment lounge.
The VLE also features the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, known as MB.OS. The software platform supports over-the-air updates, allowing new features and improvements to be added without a dealer visit.
Mercedes says the latest MBUX Virtual Assistant uses multi-agent generative AI to understand more natural and complex conversations, while also adapting to user preferences over time.
Advanced Driver Assistance and Parking Technology
The VLE is equipped with a comprehensive sensor suite that includes 10 cameras, five radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors. These systems are managed by a water-cooled central processor capable of up to 254 tera operations per second.
Standard equipment includes Distance Assist DISTRONIC, lane-keeping support, maneuvering assistance and Evasive Steering Function Plus. Additional assistance features, including steering and lane-change support, are available depending on specification.
Mercedes-Benz also plans to offer MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO, an optional digital extra designed to expand the vehicle’s assisted-driving capabilities. A future CITY PRO feature is expected to arrive through an over-the-air update.
Parking technology includes 360-degree camera views, diagonal parking support, automated parking and a Reverse Maneuvering Function. The latter can automatically reverse the vehicle along a previously traveled route for up to 490 feet, useful when there is insufficient room to turn around.
Designed for Families, Shuttles and Active Lifestyles
Mercedes-Benz is positioning the VLE as a flexible electric vehicle for several customer groups. For families, the combination of long range, fast charging, sliding doors and configurable seating should make it a practical alternative to a conventional luxury SUV.
For leisure users, the removable seating, large cargo area, available 4MATIC all-wheel drive and towing capacity of up to 2.5 tons add greater versatility.
The VLE is also expected to appeal to premium shuttle operators. With up to eight full-size seats, electric sliding doors on both sides and an upscale digital interior, it offers a quieter and more refined alternative to traditional luxury vans.
Additional convenience features include fully retractable sliding-door windows, a separately opening rear window and a standard EASY-PACK electric tailgate.
A New Design Direction for Mercedes Electric Vans
The VLE introduces a lower and more streamlined design than conventional vans, with a long roofline, rounded rear section and a more car-like front end. The design is intended to improve efficiency while giving the VLE a stronger premium presence.
Depending on specification, the front end can feature an illuminated grille frame, a full-width light bar and star-shaped daytime running lights. At the rear, arc-shaped taillights and an inverted U-shaped light signature create a distinctive look.
Inside, the Sky View panoramic roof stretches from the B-pillar to the rear of the vehicle, helping create a more open cabin atmosphere. Ambient lighting extends through all three seating rows, reinforcing the VLE’s lounge-like character.
The Mercedes-Benz VLE aims to redefine what an electric luxury van can be. With more than 435 miles of WLTP range, ultra-fast charging, premium suspension technology, flexible seating and a high-tech cabin, it brings together the best qualities of a limousine, SUV and people mover in one electric package.
