Mercedes-Maybach VLS Ultra-Luxury Electric Minivan Teased

Mercedes-Benz is doubling down on its luxury minivan strategy—and taking it to an entirely new level. Shortly after unveiling the upcoming Mercedes-Benz VLE, the brand has teased something far more exclusive: the all-new Mercedes-Maybach VLS.

Positioned as a “Grand Limousine,” the VLS marks the first time the Mercedes-Maybach name will appear on a minivan. If early signals are anything to go by, this could become the most opulent MPV ever built—aimed squarely at rivals from Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

A New Benchmark for Luxury Minivans

While details remain limited, Mercedes-Maybach promises an “exceptional sense of space” and “unrivaled exclusivity.” The teaser image reveals only a subtle design cue—the rear pillar adorned with the Maybach emblem—but it hints at a vehicle designed with prestige and presence in mind.

More importantly, the VLS is expected to transform the traditional minivan concept into a rolling private lounge. This aligns with the brand’s philosophy of prioritizing rear-seat passengers above all else—a hallmark of every Maybach model.

Inspired by the Vision V Concept

The VLS will likely draw heavily from the Mercedes Vision V concept, which debuted last year. That concept introduced a bold design language, including a sleek, tapering rear window line—already echoed in the teaser.

Crucially, the Vision V was fully electric, and the production VLS is expected to follow suit. An electric powertrain is a natural fit for the Maybach ethos, delivering near-silent operation and effortless performance.

For reference, the VLE is expected to produce up to 409 horsepower in dual-motor form, meaning the VLS could push well beyond that figure to match its flagship status.

A “Private Lounge” on Wheels

If the Vision V’s interior is any indication, the VLS will completely rewrite expectations for in-car luxury. The concept featured plush, first-class seating for four passengers, a retractable 4K cinema screen, premium, handcrafted materials throughout and a fully immersive digital environment.

Mercedes-Maybach has emphasized an “uncompromising commitment to the rear passenger,” suggesting the VLS will prioritize comfort over capacity. Unlike traditional minivans, seating could be limited to four occupants—maximizing space, privacy, and exclusivity.

Pricing and Expected Launch Timeline

Mercedes has yet to confirm an official debut date, but with both the standard VLS-Class and Maybach variant still under wraps, a full reveal is expected later this year. A market launch could follow in 2027.

If it reaches the U.S., the VLS will carry a substantial price tag. For context, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV starts around $180,000. Given its positioning, the VLS could easily exceed $200,000—and potentially rival the $244,000+ territory of flagship Maybach sedans.
