Hyundai is expanding its flagship electric SUV lineup with the introduction of the new IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink, a more distinctive version of the award-winning three-row EV.
Positioned above the existing Calligraphy specification, the new flagship trim adds an exclusive black-focused exterior and interior treatment while retaining the IONIQ 9’s spacious cabin, premium equipment and electric driving technology.
Built on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP electric vehicle platform, the IONIQ 9 combines three-row practicality with Hyundai’s signature “Aerosthetic” design language. The new Calligraphy Black Ink trim is designed to give the large electric SUV a more sophisticated and understated appearance.
IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink Adds Exclusive Styling
The new Calligraphy Black Ink trim focuses on subtle design changes rather than dramatic styling revisions.
Hyundai gives the flagship electric SUV a matte black front emblem, exclusive 21-inch Calligraphy Black Ink alloy wheels and a gloss black rear garnish. The exterior package is available in two colors: Serenity White Pearl and Abyss Black Pearl.
The combination creates a more cohesive appearance while complementing the IONIQ 9’s aerodynamic body and clean proportions.
Inside, the black theme continues with black Nappa leather seats, a black leather-wrapped steering wheel and black-finished real aluminum dashboard trim. The result is a more coordinated cabin that emphasizes the IONIQ 9’s premium positioning.
Premium Features Carry Over From Calligraphy
The Calligraphy Black Ink builds on the already well-equipped Calligraphy trim rather than replacing its core features.
The existing Calligraphy specification includes a Nappa leather interior and exclusive Calligraphy design elements. Customers can also choose an available six-seat configuration with Hyundai’s Universal Island 2.0, providing additional flexibility for families and passengers.
With the Black Ink treatment, Hyundai is essentially adding a more distinctive visual identity to its highest-level IONIQ 9 specification.
“IONIQ 9 has established itself as an award-winning flagship EV recognised for its distinctive design, outstanding driving experience and comprehensive feature offering,” said Christopher McKinnon, Vice President, Head of Product and Product Director Office for Europe at Hyundai Motor Europe.
“With Calligraphy Black Ink, we have enhanced the vehicle’s visual character through carefully integrated design details, creating an even more distinctive interpretation of our flagship electric SUV.”
An Award-Winning Three-Row Electric SUV
The IONIQ 9 has quickly established itself as one of Hyundai’s most prominent electric vehicles in Europe. The model has received recognition from several automotive awards programs, including German Premium Car of the Year 2026, Best Seven-Seater at the 2026 Parkers New Car Awards, Best 7-Seater Electric SUV at the 2025 TopGear.com Electric Awards, and World’s Best Large SUV at the 2026 Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year Awards.
The new Calligraphy Black Ink trim adds another layer of exclusivity to a model already positioned at the top of Hyundai’s electric SUV range.
IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink Availability
Hyundai will introduce the IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink across European markets according to regional launch schedules.
Pricing and specific availability will be announced by individual Hyundai organizations closer to the local market launches. The new trim is expected to sit above the current Calligraphy specification as the flagship version of the IONIQ 9 lineup.
With its black exterior detailing, premium cabin and three-row practicality, the Calligraphy Black Ink gives Hyundai’s largest electric SUV a more distinctive premium character without changing the formula that has made the IONIQ 9 an award-winning EV.
