VW Begin Production of CUPRA Raval and Volkswagen ID. Polo in Spain

SEAT & CUPRA have officially started production of the all-new CUPRA Raval and Volkswagen ID. Polo at their Martorell facility in Spain, marking a major milestone in the Volkswagen Group’s electrification strategy.

The launch signals the beginning of large-scale production for the Electric Urban Car Family, a project led by SEAT & CUPRA on behalf of the Volkswagen Group’s Brand Group Core. Designed to make electric mobility more accessible across Europe, the initiative will deliver four fully electric models across three brands, all manufactured in Spain.

A Key Role in Volkswagen Group’s EV Strategy

The Electric Urban Car Family represents the largest project ever led by SEAT & CUPRA within the Volkswagen Group. Built on a shared architecture, the program reduces manufacturing complexity and lowers production costs while allowing each model to maintain a distinct identity and target different customer needs.

The project also highlights SEAT & CUPRA’s growing strategic importance within the Volkswagen Group. Following the introduction of the new cross-brand governance model, the company will continue to lead development efforts for the MEB21 platform from the Iberian Peninsula.

Martorell Ready to Electrify Europe

The start of production for the CUPRA Raval and Volkswagen ID. Polo completes a significant transformation of the Martorell facility. The factory has evolved into a highly flexible manufacturing hub capable of producing electric, hybrid, and advanced combustion-engine vehicles.

The milestone was celebrated at an institutional event attended by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume, Volkswagen Brand CEO Thomas Schäfer, and SEAT & CUPRA CEO Markus Haupt, alongside other company executives.

Volkswagen ID. Polo: A Familiar Name Goes Electric

The new Volkswagen ID. Polo brings one of Volkswagen’s most successful nameplates into the electric era. With more than 20 million units sold globally, the Polo has long been a cornerstone of the brand’s lineup.

The all-electric ID. Polo combines compact dimensions with a spacious interior, modern technology, and an affordable entry-level positioning. Volkswagen says the model will offer a WLTP driving range of up to 454 kilometers (282 miles).

Technology highlights include the latest Connected Travel Assist system, automatic traffic-light recognition, efficient one-pedal driving capability, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, allowing the car to power external devices such as e-bikes and other electrical equipment.

CUPRA Raval Targets Urban EV Buyers

The CUPRA Raval marks another important step in CUPRA’s rapid expansion. Measuring just four meters in length, the sporty urban EV combines compact dimensions with a driver-focused cabin and distinctive design.

Built on Volkswagen Group’s MEB+ platform, the Raval aims to redefine electric mobility in the urban segment. The model introduces advanced features including 3D-knitted CUP Bucket seats and dynamic lighting projections integrated into the door panels.

At launch, the CUPRA Raval will be available in three versions and is expected to deliver a driving range of approximately 450 kilometers (280 miles).

The model is scheduled to arrive in European markets during the summer of 2026 and is expected to further strengthen CUPRA’s momentum. The brand recently surpassed one million cumulative vehicle sales and recorded its strongest first quarter ever in 2026, with March becoming the best-selling month in its history.

Spain’s €10 Billion Electrification Push

The start of EV production in Martorell is part of a broader effort to transform Spain into a major European electric vehicle hub.

Through the Future: Fast Forward initiative, SEAT & CUPRA, together with Volkswagen Group, PowerCo, and other partners, have invested €10 billion in Spain’s automotive electrification. As the only company in Spain that designs, develops, manufactures, and markets vehicles domestically, SEAT & CUPRA is playing a central role in accelerating the country’s transition to electric mobility.

With production of the CUPRA Raval and Volkswagen ID. Polo now underway, Martorell is positioned to become one of Europe’s key centers for affordable electric vehicle manufacturing, supporting Volkswagen Group’s ambition to bring electric mobility to a broader audience across the continent.
