GM Recalls Nearly All Cadillac Lyriq SUVs Over Brake Issue

General Motors is issuing a recall for nearly all of its all-electric Cadillac Lyriq SUVs due to a potential anti-lock brake system (ABS) malfunction that could lead to a crash. The recall encompasses approximately 21,469 all-wheel-drive Lyriq models from the 2023 and 2024 model years.

A software glitch in the electronic brake control module can cause the ABS to unexpectedly release brake pressure, potentially reducing stopping power or causing complete brake failure. While rare, this issue has been linked to specific driving conditions that trigger the malfunction.

To rectify the problem, GM will update the software in affected vehicles via an over-the-air update or at dealership service centers. Owners will be notified of the recall in August or September and can have the update performed at no cost.

GM initiated an investigation into the matter in May 2024 after reports of minor accidents possibly related to the ABS software. The company has not reported any injuries or fatalities linked to the issue.

Since its launch, GM has sold 22,370 Lyriq SUVs in the United States, with more than half of those sales occurring in the first six months of 2024.
