Taiwan to Spend Heavily on Subsidies for Electric Cars

Taiwan on Thursday unveiled plan aimed at boosting domestic production and use of electric cars over the next six years.

Taiwan’s government will spend NT$9.7 billion to subsidize the research and development of electric car parts and set up charging stations across the island to service 3,000 electric cars.

Taiwan hopes 60,000 electric cars will in use on the island by 2016 as a result of the subsidies.

The plan is expected to create 24,000 jobs.
