Fisker Automotive will begin a ten-week dealer tour in the United States and Canada to introduce the stylish Karma premium plug-in hybrid later this month.
Scheduled to kick off Tuesday, April 27 from the company’s Irvine, California headquarters, the two-month program will stop in 42 cities in 26 states and three Canadian provinces.
Fisker claims the Karma generates 403 horsepower from its plug-in hybrid system, getting to 60 mph in six seconds and topping out at 125 mph. All of that in a four-door sedan layout, with a range of 300 miles, though only the first 50 miles are all-electric.
Fisker plans for the Karma plug-in hybrid is 15,000 units, of which 7,500 will be sold outside the United States. To meet production goals, Fisker turned to specialty builder Valmet Automotive in Finland.
Fisker said development of the $87,900 Karma will pave the way for a lower-cost plug-in hybrid. The cheaper model, called Project Nina for now, is expected to be built in Wilmington, Del., at a former General Motors assembly plant, starting in 2012.
