Nissan has reached a major milestone in its electrification journey, delivering its 100,000th electric vehicle to a customer in the United Kingdom. The landmark delivery underscores the automaker’s long-standing commitment to electric mobility and comes as its latest generation of EVs continues to expand its presence across the British market.
The historic vehicle was an all-new, all-electric Nissan MICRA, handed over to customers Ron and Gillian Ainsworth at Chorley Group’s Nissan dealership in Chorley, Lancashire. Unaware that their purchase would become part of Nissan’s history in the UK, the couple became the recipients of the manufacturer’s 100,000th EV delivered nationwide.
All-New Nissan MICRA Continues Strong Start
Since arriving in dealerships earlier this year, the all-electric Nissan MICRA has quickly become one of the brand’s most talked-about models. Combining compact dimensions with modern styling, practical everyday usability, and zero-emission driving, the new MICRA has attracted both first-time EV buyers and existing electric vehicle owners looking for their next car.
According to Nissan retailer Chorley Group, customer demand has been particularly strong as more drivers look to reduce running costs amid higher fuel prices while benefiting from the latest advancements in electric vehicle technology.
For the Ainsworth family, the new MICRA marks their first experience with electric mobility. After researching the model and reading positive reviews, they selected the compact EV for its comfort, spacious interior, attractive design, and enjoyable driving experience.
A Pioneer in the UK’s Electric Vehicle Market
Nissan’s achievement reflects more than a decade of leadership in Britain’s EV market. The company’s electric journey began in 2011 with the launch of the original Nissan LEAF, widely recognized as the world’s first mass-produced electric car for mainstream buyers.
The first-generation LEAF helped introduce thousands of UK motorists to battery-electric driving with a practical real-world range for daily commuting. A second-generation model followed in 2018, bringing updated styling, improved efficiency, and advanced driver assistance technologies such as ProPILOT.
Today, Nissan’s electric lineup has evolved considerably. Alongside the all-new MICRA, customers can choose the refreshed ARIYA electric SUV and the third-generation LEAF, which has already received significant industry recognition ahead of its showroom arrival later this year.
Nissan’s Growing Electric Vehicle Lineup
Nissan’s current UK EV portfolio now spans multiple vehicle segments, giving buyers more options than ever before.
The all-new LEAF enters its third generation with British engineering and production, continuing the legacy of one of the world’s most influential electric cars. Even before reaching customers, the latest model has earned the 2026 Auto Express Car of the Year award.
The Nissan ARIYA remains the brand’s premium electric SUV, offering a driving range of more than 300 miles along with updated technology, refined styling, and enhanced everyday practicality for the 2026 model year.
Meanwhile, the reborn Nissan MICRA has returned exclusively as a fully electric hatchback. Early reviews have praised its blend of efficiency, driving dynamics, and urban practicality, making it an appealing option in the increasingly competitive small EV segment.
Beyond passenger vehicles, Nissan has also continued expanding its commercial EV range. Following the pioneering e-NV200, the company now offers the Townstar EV and the larger Interstar-e, providing fully electric solutions for businesses and fleet operators.
Government Incentives Support EV Adoption
Nissan’s latest passenger EV lineup—including the MICRA, LEAF, and ARIYA—qualifies for the UK’s Government Electric Car Grant, helping make electric vehicles more accessible to a wider range of buyers.
Combined with lower operating costs, improving charging infrastructure, and expanding model availability, financial incentives continue to encourage drivers to make the transition from internal combustion engines to battery-electric vehicles.
Looking Ahead
Nissan’s electrification strategy is set to accelerate further over the coming years. In addition to the launch of the third-generation LEAF, the company is preparing to introduce the first-ever fully electric JUKE, which will be built alongside the LEAF at Nissan’s Sunderland manufacturing plant.
The automaker also plans to expand its portfolio with a new ultra-compact A-segment electric model designed specifically for urban mobility, further strengthening its presence across multiple EV categories.
Reaching 100,000 electric vehicle deliveries in the UK represents an important milestone not only for Nissan but also for the continued growth of electric mobility in one of Europe’s largest EV markets. With an expanding product lineup, ongoing investment in British manufacturing, and new models arriving in the near future, Nissan appears well positioned to build on 15 years of leadership in electric vehicle innovation.
