Ford Motor Company has unveiled an upgraded version of its all-electric Explorer SUV, bringing improved performance, longer range, and a new adventure-inspired special edition called the Explorer Collection.
The latest updates focus on boosting everyday usability while enhancing the SUV’s outdoor-ready character. From a new battery technology and stronger electric motor to expanded driver assistance features and a mobile power system, the enhanced Explorer aims to offer a more capable and versatile electric driving experience.
New LFP Battery Boosts Range and Efficiency
One of the biggest improvements arrives in the Explorer Standard Range model, which now features a new Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery.
This upgrade increases the driving range to up to 444 km (276 miles) on a full charge — more than 17% higher than before. LFP batteries are also known for their durability and for requiring fewer high-demand raw materials compared with some traditional EV battery chemistries.
The Standard Range Explorer also receives an upgraded electric motor delivering 140 kW (190 PS) of power, 350 Nm of torque and 0–100 km/h acceleration in 8.0 seconds.
These changes improve responsiveness and make the SUV better suited for both city driving and longer road trips.
Explorer Collection: Adventure-Inspired Design
Ford is also introducing the Explorer Collection, a new limited-series model within the Ford Collection lineup. The design draws inspiration from sporting equipment and active lifestyles.
Exterior highlights include:
– Exclusive Cactus Grey paint
– New 20-inch Satin Black alloy wheels
– Black roof and skid plates
– Unique door and rear pillar graphics
Inside the cabin, the Explorer Collection continues the sporty theme with:
– Black Onyx interior with orange accents
– Orange seatbelts and trim highlights
– A distinctive black-and-orange speckled dashboard finish
– Seats with a 2D knit insert inspired by sports apparel
The result is a more distinctive, adventure-ready version of Ford’s electric SUV.
Smarter Driver Assistance Systems
The upgraded Explorer also expands its advanced driver assistance technology.
Enhanced Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control now includes Traffic Light Recognition, allowing the vehicle to automatically slow down or stop when it detects red or amber lights.
New features include:
Reversing Assist
– Records the vehicle’s path for up to 50 meters
– Automatically steers during reversing maneuvers
Trained Park Assist
– Learns and stores parking maneuvers
– Can replicate them automatically
– Stores up to five parking scenarios
Driver State Assist
– Monitors driver attention using a cabin camera
– If no input is detected, the vehicle can alert the driver, activate hazard lights, stop safely, unlock doors, and contact emergency services.
In addition, one-pedal driving is now standard across the Explorer range, making urban driving smoother and more efficient.
Pro Power Onboard Turns Explorer Into a Mobile Generator
A standout new feature is Pro Power Onboard, which transforms the electric SUV into a mobile energy source.
The system can supply up to 2.3 kW of power, enabling owners to run electrical devices during outdoor activities or while traveling.
Key features include:
– A power outlet located in the boot (trunk)
– Optional adapter connecting to the charging port
– Ability to power devices such as laptops, camping equipment, or e-bikes
Ford also offers an optional Travel Pack, which adds:
– Dog guard compatibility
– Frunk organizer for emergency items
– Boot load net for cargo stability
Updated SYNC Move Infotainment
The Explorer’s SYNC Move infotainment system has also received a refresh.
The system features a 14.6-inch movable touchscreen and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
New improvements include:
– Updated Android-based software for smoother performance
– Customizable app folders and layouts
– Larger navigation, camera, and parking assist displays for easier viewing while driving
These updates make the interface more intuitive and smartphone-like in operation.
Availability
The updated electric Explorer lineup, including the new Explorer Collection, is available to order now across Europe.
According to Christian Weingaertner, general manager of passenger vehicles at Ford Europe, the upgrades elevate the SUV to “a new level of sophistication,” combining longer range, improved technology, and enhanced practicality.
