BYD has officially previewed the all-new Qin Max, a larger flagship sedan that expands the popular Qin lineup. Positioned above the Qin L, the new B-segment model is aimed at younger buyers and introduces BYD’s latest flash-charging technology alongside both battery-electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain options.
The announcement was made by Lu Tian, General Manager of BYD’s Dynasty sales division, who described the Qin Max as an “extra-large” member of the Qin family and a completely new fast-charging sedan developed to meet growing demand for larger, more advanced electric vehicles.
Larger Than the Qin L
The Qin Max builds on the success of the Qin L while offering a more spacious package. According to regulatory filings, the sedan measures:
– Length: 4,866 mm
– Width: 1,880 mm
– Height: 1,495 mm
– Wheelbase: 2,820 mm
Compared with the Qin L, the new model is slightly longer and rides on a longer wheelbase, giving it a more premium presence. For reference, the Tesla Model 3 measures 4,720 mm in length, making the Qin Max notably longer overall.
Visually, the sedan follows BYD’s latest design language with slim LED headlights, a closed-off front fascia, sculpted body lines, semi-hidden door handles, multi-spoke alloy wheels, and a full-width rear light signature with intricate lighting elements.
Available as Both EV and Plug-In Hybrid
The Qin Max will be offered with two electrified powertrain choices.
Battery-Electric Version
The fully electric Qin Max will be available with two motor configurations:
– 120 kW (161 hp)
– 240 kW (322 hp)
Two Blade Battery packs are expected with 53 kWh and 64 kWh.
Depending on the battery, BYD claims CLTC driving ranges of:
– 530 km (330 miles)
– 630 km (391 miles)
The higher-output version places the Qin Max among the more powerful electric sedans in its segment.
Plug-In Hybrid Version
The plug-in hybrid model combines:
– A 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine producing 74 kW
– An electric motor producing 175 kW (235 hp)
The system uses a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, although BYD has not yet released official electric-only driving range figures.
BYD’s Latest Flash Charging Technology
One of the Qin Max’s biggest highlights is its compatibility with BYD’s newest flash-charging system.
The technology is built around BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and the company’s latest Super e-Platform, which supports megawatt-level charging. Under ideal conditions, vehicles equipped with this system can:
– Recharge from 10% to 70% in approximately 5 minutes
– Charge from 10% to 97% in around 9 minutes
BYD says the technology also maintains impressive performance in extreme cold. At temperatures as low as -30°C (-22°F), charging time increases by only about three minutes compared with normal conditions.
The company has also introduced charging hardware capable of delivering up to 1,500 kW using a single charging gun, representing one of the highest charging outputs currently announced by any automaker.
Expanding the Qin Family
The Qin lineup currently includes the Qin Plus and Qin L, both available in electric and plug-in hybrid forms. The arrival of the Qin Max adds a third model that serves as the flagship of the range, offering more interior space, faster charging capability, and stronger performance.
Although BYD has not yet confirmed pricing or an official launch date, interest has been building rapidly in China following regulatory filings and the first official teaser images.
The Qin L proved to be a major success after its launch, with BYD reporting more than 10,000 orders during its first week on sale. Given its larger dimensions, upgraded technology, and ultra-fast charging capabilities, the Qin Max is expected to become another key model in BYD’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle portfolio.
More details, including pricing, equipment levels, and market availability, are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
