Hyundai has given UK EV buyers another reason to look seriously at the Kona Electric. For the first time, the compact electric SUV now qualifies for the Government’s Electric Car Grant, instantly reducing its purchase price by £1,500.
All versions of the Kona Electric are now eligible under Electric Car Grant Band 2, making zero-emission driving more affordable for private buyers, fleet customers, and Motability users alike.
For retail customers, the grant is applied directly to the on-the-road price, cutting £1,500 from the cost of every Kona Electric. This positions the model far more competitively in the crowded electric SUV segment, especially when its long driving range and high standard equipment are taken into account.
Motability customers also benefit significantly. The advance payment for the Kona Electric has dropped to £749, opening the door to electric ownership for more drivers who rely on the scheme.
The Kona Electric already has a solid reputation in the fleet market, and grant eligibility only strengthens its appeal. With pricing now starting from £349 + VAT per month on a 6+35 contract with 8,000 miles per year, fleet operators are seeing an improvement of £38 per month compared to previous offers.
When combined with Hyundai’s generous trim levels, impressive efficiency, and real-world driving range, the Kona Electric becomes a highly competitive option against rival electric SUVs.
Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai & Genesis UK, highlighted the importance of the grant in making electric vehicles more accessible:
“KONA Electric’s eligibility for the Electric Car Grant ensures that customers have access to a more level playing field when it comes to choosing electric mobility. A lower retail price, attractive fleet proposition and reduced Motability advance payment ensure that KONA Electric’s mix of high specification, long-range abilities and affordability remains extremely attractive, regardless of how you choose to fund your vehicle.”
Beyond the Kona Electric, Hyundai continues to support EV adoption through its own Electric Grant, launched in July 2025. The incentive offers:
– £3,750 off all Hyundai INSTER models
– £1,500 off IONIQ 5, IONIQ 5 N, IONIQ 6, IONIQ 6 N, and IONIQ 9
With government and manufacturer incentives now working together, Hyundai’s electric lineup is more accessible than ever — and the Kona Electric is right at the center of that push.
