
The Chinese leading NEV manufacturer BYD has kicked off 2025 with a bang, posting impressive sales figures that highlight its continued dominance in the electric vehicle market.
In March alone, the Shenzhen-based automaker sold 377,420 NEVs globally, pushing their first-quarter passenger vehicle sales close to the million-vehicle mark.
March Highlights:
- Passenger Car Sales: 371,419 units, a 15% increase from February and a 23.1% year-over-year (YoY) rise.
- Production: 395,091 vehicles, a 33% YoY surge from 296,253 units.
- Exports: A record-breaking 72,723 units, nearly a 90% YoY jump and an 8.5% increase from February, marking a new monthly high.

Q1 2025: A Quarter of Explosive Growth
The first quarter of 2025 saw BYD achieve remarkable milestones:
- Total Passenger Vehicle Sales: 990,711 units, a 58.7% increase from Q1 2024.
- Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Sales: 416,388 units, up 39% YoY, representing 42.2% of total sales.
- Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) Sales: 569,710 units, a 76% YoY surge, accounting for 57.8% of total sales.
- Record Exports: 206,084 EVs exported, a 111% YoY increase.
- Year-to-date sales: 1,000,804 vehicles, of which 986,098 were passenger cars.
- Cumulative EV Sales: Surpassed 11.6 million units.
With 3 million vehicles sold in 2023 and 4.3 million in 2024, BYD’s ambitious projections of around 5.5 million units in 2025 and 6.5 million in 2026 seem increasingly attainable.
