Research: 96% Of Brits Could Make Their Christmas Trip In EV On Single Charge

The majority of Brits driving home this Christmas to see friends and family could make the entire journey in an electric car on a single charge.

PEUGEOT UK found that 96% of Brits heading to visit their families or friends this Christmas will drive fewer than 220 miles. Nearly two thirds of drivers will cover less than 100 miles to see their loved ones this Christmas.

The average distance British motorists will drive home this Christmas to see friends and family is 79 miles, with Londoners set to drive the furthest to see their loved ones – covering on average 122 miles this festive period. Drivers in Northern Ireland were found to cover the smallest distance to see friends and family this Christmas, averaging just 59 miles.

Fully electric cars currently account for just 1.4% of all new car sales, yet more than a third of respondents said they would be comfortable doing all of their Christmas travels between 23rd December and 2nd January in one.

PEUGEOT sells the all-electric e-208, which has a range of 217 miles, meaning that most people could do their festive driving on a single charge in the battery-powered hatchback.

According to PEUGEOT’s research, two thirds of drivers will be stopping at least once on their Christmas travels. The all-new PEUGEOT e-208 supports 100kW rapid charging, with an 80% charge taking just 30 minutes, meaning a service station stop-off could see drivers add another 173 miles of range to their car. The e-208 is powered by a 136hp electric motor and a 50kWh battery. With zero-emissions, the e-208 would save each driver 15,828g CO2 on their Christmas journey – with the average new car CO2 emissions rated at 124.5g/km. As part of its commitment to electrification, PEUGEOT will offer an electrified variant of every model in the range by 2023.

“Christmas is a time many of us hit the road to see our loved ones. Though we will all be covering great distances in the coming weeks, our research shows nearly every driver in the UK could do their Christmas journey in a full-electric all-new PEUGEOT e-208,” David Peel, managing director of PEUGEOT UK. “Drivers would not only save money on their Christmas journey but also significantly cut emissions.”

“With the launch of the e-208, PEUGEOT is fully committed to ‘unboring the future’ and providing drivers with the option to ‘choose your Peugeot, choose your powertrain’, as our new hatchback is available with a range of efficient petrol, diesel and EV powertrains across the range.”
