EVgo Opens Its 950th Fast Charger at Molly Pitcher Service Area in New Jersey

EVgo, the network of public EV fast charging stations, and Public Service Electric and Gas Co. (PSE&G), New Jersey’s oldest and largest regulated gas and electric delivery utility, have opened EVgo’s 950thfast charger in the United States, at Molly Pitcher Service Area in Cranbury, NJ, centrally-located on the New Jersey Turnpike.

The completed station at Molly Pitcher Service Area includes two 480V Fast Chargers. Each one can deliver a 50 kilowatt charge at the same time, which provides 80 percent state of charge in 30 minutes, or about 150 miles of range per hour.

EVgo supports all public charging standards with the fastest-available public charging. By owning and operating its stations, EVgo is able provide the best customer experience in EV charging and meet the high standards of partners like PSE&G. On an average week EVgo charges up to 380,000 miles and saves 15,500 gallons of gasoline from being used.

The Molly Pitcher Service Area is located in Cranbury, NJ, where many Revolutionary Era buildings still stand today. The service area sees a large amount of New Jersey Turnpike visitors and recorded 1,890,155 separate transactions in 2016.

EVgo utilizes a variety of flexible charging solutions including pay-as-you-go, low-cost membership charging plans and unlimited charging plans for customers of partner OEMs, including BMW, Nissan and Ford.

EVgo offers dual chargers that cover all EVs, utilizing both CHAdeMO and CCS standards. EVgo’s DC Fast chargers provide approximately 150 miles of range per hour at a charging rate of 50kW. In comparison to other EV charging options, such as wall outlets and Level 2, DC Fast is one of the fastest charging methods available today. Standard wall outlets charge at 120 volts and provide drivers with just six miles of range per hour. Level 2 chargers, or J1772, give drivers 12-24 miles of range per hour at 240 volts, making DC Fast charging multitudes faster and more convenient for drivers looking to extend the range of their EV.

EVgo now operates 950 fast chargers in over 600 locations nationwide, covering the metropolitan areas where 90 percent of new electric cars are sold.

In addition to the EVgo partnership, PSE&G also offers an EV Charging Program designed to help spur the continued adoption of EVs in New Jersey by providing convenient charging options and gather data on real-world use.  That program currently has charging stations with a total of 90 plugs installed at 12 customer sites.  PSE&G also offers an Employee EV Charging Program with 45 plugs available at various company locations.
