National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) says it is aiming for series production start of its all-electric Saab 9-3 by autumn or winter this year.
Saab is currently in the process of building 200 electric 9-3s at its new assembly line in Trollhattan, Sweden, to be tested in the Chinese state of Qingdao during the spring or summer months.
Volume production of the electric 9-3 will begin later this year on a new assembly line in Trollhattan. Certification is underway, a spokesperson said, ahead of a 2015 launch with several European markets being considered.
For now, the electric Saab 9-3 has a rather limited range – of roughly 200 kilometers (124 miles) – but the company is currently looking to increase the current range of its lithium ion powertrain from around 300km (186 miles).
NEVS started production of the Saab 9-3 Aero sedan with 220 hp, two liter, turbocharged petrol engines last December for Chinese customers, but the model can also be purchased in Sweden through the company website.
