Range Rover Electric Arrives With 372-Mile Range and £154,070 Price

The Range Rover has officially entered the electric era. The new Range Rover Electric brings zero-emission propulsion to the luxury SUV that has defined the segment for decades, combining familiar Range Rover design and off-road capability with instant electric torque, improved refinement and a claimed range of up to 372 miles.

Built in Solihull, UK, the home of Range Rover production since 1970, the electric flagship starts at £154,070 in the UK. Orders are now open across multiple trim levels and body styles, including standard- and long-wheelbase versions.

Range Rover says the new electric SUV is designed to deliver a quieter and more effortless driving experience than any Range Rover before it, while retaining the capability expected from the brand.

550PS and 850Nm of Instant Torque

The Range Rover Electric uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with two permanent-magnet electric motors, each rated at 260kW. Combined output reaches 550PS and 850Nm of torque, giving the large luxury SUV considerably more immediate response than a conventional combustion-powered Range Rover.

The electric powertrain can propel the SUV from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 4.3 seconds. Acceleration from 50 to 75 mph takes as little as 2.7 seconds, providing strong performance for highway overtaking.

The motors also incorporate silicon carbide semiconductors designed to improve switching efficiency while maintaining high performance across different driving conditions.

At the heart of the system is a usable 118.5kWh lithium-ion battery with 344 prismatic cells. An 800-volt electrical architecture allows the Range Rover Electric to support high-speed DC charging.

Range Rover quotes a maximum WLTP range of 372 miles, while its stated real-world range is as high as 333 miles (535km).

Fast Charging in Around 22 Minutes

Charging is another area where the Range Rover Electric moves beyond earlier electrified Range Rover models.

When connected to a compatible 350kW DC rapid charger, the SUV can recharge from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes. Range Rover also says the vehicle can add around 220km (137 miles) of WLTP range in 10 minutes when charging at its maximum rate.

Owners in the UK and Europe can access more than one million public charging points through available charging services. In North America, the Range Rover Electric is compatible with the Tesla Supercharger network through built-in NACS compatibility.

An optional Range Rover home charger is also available for owners who want a dedicated charging solution.

Electric Power Meets Serious Off-Road Capability

Range Rover has placed considerable emphasis on ensuring the electric model remains capable away from paved roads.

The SUV features Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD), which can vary torque distribution between the front and rear axles to help maintain traction. Its Integrated Traction Management system can adjust electric motor speed within just 50 milliseconds and manage wheel slip considerably faster than an equivalent internal-combustion system.

These systems work with a new Single Pedal mode to give the driver precise control on steep terrain. Range Rover says the vehicle can pull away smoothly on gradients of up to 33 degrees and tackle rolling climbs of up to 45 degrees.

That capability is particularly significant because electric SUVs can benefit from the precise torque control offered by electric motors when navigating loose or uneven surfaces.

Advanced Thermal Management Extends Range

Extreme temperatures can have a major impact on an EV’s range, charging performance and battery life. To address this, Range Rover Electric uses a new ThermAssist heat-management system.

According to Range Rover, the system can add as much as 25 miles of range while reducing heating energy consumption by up to 40%. It is designed to optimize battery performance, charging speeds, longevity and driving range in demanding temperatures.

The electric Range Rover has undergone testing in some of the world’s harshest environments, including temperatures as low as those experienced in Arjeplog, Sweden, as well as the heat of the Dubai desert.

Overall, the vehicle has completed more than 1.5 million kilometres of testing and over 250,000 hours of virtual and physical development.

More than 300 patent applications have also been filed for the Range Rover Electric, which JLR says is the largest number associated with a single vehicle in the history of the brand.

Battery Designed for Long-Term Durability

Battery durability and safety have received particular attention during development.

JLR’s battery testing program subjects live battery packs to extreme vibration and shock testing across temperatures ranging from -40°C to +90°C. The battery is housed in a high-strength aluminium enclosure designed to protect it from impacts and harsh conditions.

Every battery cell is tested before being assembled into a battery pack. The completed pack is then tested again for assembly integrity and performance before being installed into the vehicle.

Range Rover Electric also introduces a Battery Digital Twin, which monitors more than 900 diagnostic data points. Combined with over-the-air software updates, the system can help identify potential issues and support proactive vehicle maintenance.

The electric propulsion system is covered by an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty.

Always Connected Through the Range Rover App

The Range Rover Electric is also designed to remain connected when parked.

Through the Range Rover app, owners can check the vehicle’s charging status, predicted range, location and locked status. The app can also be used to activate features such as cabin purification and the heated steering wheel.

Charging can be scheduled remotely, allowing owners to take advantage of lower electricity tariffs where available.

Built in the UK

Production of the Range Rover Electric represents a major investment in JLR’s UK manufacturing operations.

The Solihull plant has been extensively upgraded to support electric vehicle production. Around 9,000 manufacturing employees at the facility have been trained in electrification, with another 1,500 employees receiving training across JLR’s wider West Midlands operations.

The first phase of the factory transformation covers approximately 40,000 square metres and includes 13 new battery and electric drive-unit manufacturing lines.

JLR has also expanded its Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton, where battery packs and electric drive units are produced alongside conventional engines.

Advanced camera systems using AI are incorporated into electric drive-unit quality checks, while battery cells and completed battery packs undergo performance and integrity testing before installation.

Range Rover Electric Prices and Trims

The £154,070 starting price makes the Range Rover Electric significantly more expensive than many premium electric SUVs. However, the vehicle occupies an unusually high-end position in the EV market and is aimed at customers looking for luxury, performance and off-road capability in a single package.

Orders are available for standard- and long-wheelbase versions in SE, HSE and Autobiography specifications, alongside higher-performance SV variants including SV Ultra and SV Black.

A limited First Edition is also available with exclusive exterior and interior finishes, while the Range Rover Bespoke commissioning service offers customers extensive options for paint, materials, colors and personalized detailing.

The Electric Range Rover Era Has Begun

The Range Rover Electric is more than simply a battery-powered version of an existing luxury SUV. Its 800-volt architecture, 118.5kWh battery, dual 260kW motors and sophisticated traction-management systems have been engineered to preserve the characteristics that have made Range Rover successful while adding the smoothness and instant torque of electric propulsion.

With a claimed 372-mile WLTP range, 550PS, 850Nm and 350kW rapid charging, the Range Rover Electric has the specifications to compete at the top end of the growing luxury electric SUV market.

Its biggest challenge may not be capability, but price. Starting at more than £154,000, the Range Rover Electric is firmly positioned as a premium EV for buyers willing to pay a substantial premium for its combination of luxury, technology and all-terrain ability.

As production gets underway in Solihull, the electric Range Rover marks a significant step in JLR’s electrification strategy—and one of the most important electric launches yet for the Range Rover brand.
