Volvo EV Sales Stay Strong in Europe as EX30, EX40 and New EX60 Drive Demand

Volvo Cars reported global sales of 178,980 vehicles during the three-month period from March through May 2026, representing a 5.5% decline compared with the same period a year earlier.

Despite ongoing challenges across key markets, the Swedish automaker continues to see strong momentum for its electrified vehicle lineup, particularly in Europe.

The company noted that sales improved compared with the preceding three-month period covering February through April 2026, signaling a gradual recovery in demand.

Electrified vehicles — including both fully electric and plug-in hybrid models — accounted for 48% of Volvo’s total sales during the period. Fully electric vehicles made up 23% of deliveries, while plug-in hybrid models represented 25%.

Industry Headwinds Continue

Volvo’s results reflect broader challenges facing the global automotive industry, including the premium vehicle segment. Market conditions remain difficult across several regions, impacting overall sales performance.

China continues to be a particularly challenging market. Industry volumes have declined by double-digit percentages for several consecutive months amid intense competition and a difficult macroeconomic environment.

In the United States, Volvo is seeing early signs of improvement. Vehicle deliveries have gradually increased alongside a broader industry recovery. However, overall market demand remains constrained by cautious consumer sentiment and weaker interest in electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles following the removal of government incentives.

Europe Leads Volvo’s Electrification Growth

Europe remains a bright spot for Volvo’s electrification strategy.

According to Erik Severinson, Chief Commercial Officer at Volvo Cars, the company continues to gain ground in the region through its growing electric vehicle portfolio.

Deliveries of Volvo’s fully electric models increased for the eighth consecutive month, driven largely by strong customer demand for the EX30 and EX40 electric SUVs. The company also reported a sustained increase in retail orders for its fully electric vehicles across Europe, reinforcing its ambitions to strengthen its position in the premium EV segment.

The compact EX30 has emerged as one of Volvo’s key growth drivers, while the EX40 continues to attract buyers seeking a practical premium electric SUV.

New EX60 Exceeds Expectations

Volvo is also encouraged by the early reception of its newest electric model, the EX60 SUV.

The company says the fully electric EX60 has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from both customers and automotive media. Initial orders have already exceeded Volvo’s internal forecasts, providing further momentum for its EV expansion plans.

With demand building, Volvo is preparing to gradually increase EX60 production during the second half of 2026.

As the company navigates a challenging global automotive environment, growing demand for its electric SUVs in Europe and the promising launch of the EX60 suggest Volvo’s long-term electrification strategy continues to gain traction.
