Audi is expanding its electric-car lineup with the new A2 e-tron, a compact EV designed around efficiency, practicality and technology rather than simply adding more battery capacity or power.
The new electric Audi can deliver up to 401 miles of WLTP range, while its aerodynamic body achieves a drag coefficient of just 0.24. The A2 e-tron also offers battery choices ranging from 52 kWh to 84 kWh, DC fast charging at up to 183 kW and bidirectional charging capability.
UK order books are scheduled to open in October 2026, with the first cars expected to arrive at Audi Centres in early 2027. Pricing starts at £32,200 on the road.
Audi A2 e-tron: Designed for Maximum Efficiency
Efficiency is at the heart of the A2 e-tron. Audi has developed the compact EV with an aerodynamic body, enclosed underbody, optimized wheel designs and carefully managed airflow around the wheels.
The result is a 0.24 drag coefficient, described by Audi as the best figure in its compact lineup.
The front features a controllable cool-air intake that stays closed during normal highway driving and opens only when additional cooling is required. The underbody is largely enclosed, while specially designed wheel-arch elements help reduce turbulence around the tires.
The A2 e-tron also uses aerodynamic wheels and a range of efficiency-focused design details to reduce energy consumption.
This approach helps explain why Audi is positioning the A2 e-tron as its most efficient model yet.
Four Power Outputs and Rear-Wheel Drive
The Audi A2 e-tron uses permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors and rear-wheel drive. Buyers will have four power levels to choose from.
The range starts with the 170 PS version, which produces 350 Nm of torque. Above it sits the 190 PS model, followed by the 231 PS version and a range-topping 326 PS model producing 545 Nm.
Official combined energy consumption figures range from:

– 190 PS: 15.6–12.8 kWh/100 km
– 231 PS: 15.7–13.9 kWh/100 km
– 326 PS: 15.1–14.2 kWh/100 km
The 190 PS model with the optional efficiency package can consume as little as 12.8 kWh/100 km, making it the standout efficiency-focused version of the lineup.
Audi also uses silicon-carbide semiconductors in the power electronics to reduce conversion losses.
Up to 401 Miles of Range
Three battery sizes will be available: 52 kWh, 61 kWh and 84 kWh.
Depending on the configuration, the A2 e-tron offers WLTP ranges of 262, 320, 391 and up to 401 miles.
The largest 84 kWh battery is available with the 231 PS and 326 PS variants and can deliver up to 391 miles of WLTP range. Audi’s most impressive range figure of 401 miles applies to the most efficient configuration.
The two smaller batteries use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, while the 84 kWh battery uses nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) chemistry.
Audi says the LFP batteries offer strong durability and stable performance, including at low states of charge and in cold temperatures.
183 kW Fast Charging
The A2 e-tron supports DC fast charging at up to 183 kW.
Depending on the version, charging from 10% to 80% takes between 24 and 29 minutes.
Four regenerative braking levels are available, including one-pedal driving through the B position on the gear selector. Drivers can therefore tailor the amount of regenerative braking to their preferences and driving conditions.
The combination of a relatively low energy consumption figure, long-range battery options and fast charging gives the A2 e-tron a broad range of potential uses, from urban commuting to longer road trips.
Bidirectional Charging Adds Extra Versatility
One of the more interesting features of the A2 e-tron is its bidirectional charging capability.
Through Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), the vehicle can supply electricity to external equipment. That means devices such as camping equipment, tools and e-bikes can be powered directly from the vehicle.
In the UK, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, compatible setups can also enable Vehicle-to-Home (V2H).
When paired with a compatible DC wall box, the A2 e-tron’s battery can store electricity generated by a home solar system and later supply that energy back to the household.
Audi limits discharge to a battery state of charge between 20% and 80% during normal operation, while an Instant Charge function can charge the battery to 100% when the full driving range is needed.
Compact Exterior With a Spacious Interior
The A2 e-tron is designed to provide a relatively spacious cabin without taking up excessive road space.
Its 2.77-meter wheelbase, short overhangs and distinctive roofline help maximize interior room. The sweeping roof arch contributes to an airy cabin, while the rear roofline has been shaped to improve aerodynamic airflow.
The exterior design is available in two main directions. The standard version emphasizes a clean and understated appearance, while the S line adds sportier bumpers, black side skirts and window trim, a sportier diffuser and additional aerodynamic details.
Audi also uses fully electric exterior door handles. Sensors activate the handles with a light touch, while an integrated energy storage system allows the doors to remain operable if the vehicle’s onboard electrical system fails.
A Premium Interior in a Compact EV
Inside, Audi has focused on combining practicality with premium materials and digital technology.
A key feature is the Softwrap, a fabric-covered surface that stretches from the dashboard across the doors and into the rear of the cabin. Comfortable seats, decorative stitching and additional ambient lighting contribute to the more upscale atmosphere.
The standard MMI panoramic display combines an 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus with a 12.8-inch curved MMI touch display.
An optional panoramic glass roof provides approximately 1.6 square metres of glass, bringing more natural light into the cabin while using a coating designed to reduce UV exposure and excessive heat.
Storage is another focus. The front doors can accommodate bottles up to 1.25 litres, while the center console can hold 1.5-liter bottles.
Wireless Charging for Two Smartphones
The A2 e-tron’s gear selector has been moved to the steering column, freeing up space in the center console.
That space is used for a new wireless phone charging tray supporting the Qi 2.2 standard.
The system features active cooling and can charge two smartphones simultaneously at up to 25 watts. Magnetic mounts help keep the phones securely positioned while driving.
Audi also includes a modular Fidlock fastening system as standard. The magnetic-and-mechanical system allows accessories such as cupholders, charging cable bags and tie-down straps to be attached and removed quickly.
Three Fidlock adapters are located in the center console, while additional mounting points can be specified for the trunk.
396 Liters of Trunk Space
Despite its compact dimensions, the A2 e-tron offers 396 litres of trunk capacity.
Folding the rear seats increases the available space to 1,336 litres.
Standard trunk equipment includes LED lighting, a 12-volt power outlet and four tie-down anchors. An optional luggage compartment package adds a variable cargo floor, cargo net, V2L power outlet and additional Fidlock mounting points.
Higher-power versions with the 231 PS and 326 PS motors also receive a 13-liter frunk.
Driver Assistance Features From Larger Audi Models
Audi is bringing a substantial range of driver assistance technology to its compact electric model.
Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera, parking system plus, side assist, exit warning and rear cross-traffic assist.
The A2 e-tron also comes standard with front emergency brake assist, which can intervene when a collision with another vehicle or pedestrian is imminent at speeds of up to approximately 52 mph.
Swerve assist can help the driver steer around obstacles between 18 and 93 mph.
Emergency assist can detect when a driver is inactive. If the driver does not respond to visual, audible and haptic warnings, the system can bring the vehicle to an emergency stop and initiate an emergency call.
Optional systems include surround-view cameras with 3D modeling, park assist plus, rear emergency brake assist and trained parking.
AI Assistant and Advanced Route Planning
Audi is also integrating more AI-based technology into the A2 e-tron.
The e-tron route planner can calculate charging stops while considering traffic, road topography and charging-station availability. It can also condition the battery ahead of a charging stop to help maximize charging performance.
A smart range manager can suggest alternative routes and adjust the recommended driving speed to reduce the number of charging stops.
The Audi assistant uses cloud-based AI models to improve natural-language interaction and speech recognition. It can answer questions about the vehicle using information from the owner’s manual while handling general questions through an AI model.
The optional Audi connected work service adds Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams integration. Drivers can use voice commands to manage calendars, retrieve information, write emails and join Teams calls.
Up to 1,336 Liters of Cargo Space
The A2 e-tron combines its compact exterior dimensions with practical cargo capacity.
The trunk provides 396 litres of space with the rear seats in place and up to 1,336 litres with them folded.
The available panoramic roof, modular storage system and multiple charging and power outlets further emphasize Audi’s attempt to make the compact EV suitable for everyday family and commuting duties.
Suspension and Driving Modes
Audi says the A2 e-tron has been tuned to provide a balanced driving experience in city traffic, on highways and through corners.
Comfort suspension is available, while sport suspension adds stiffer anti-roll bars. Damper-controlled suspension is also offered and comes standard on the 326 PS model.
Four Audi drive select modes are available: comfort, balanced, efficiency and dynamic.
The adaptive damping system can adjust individual shock absorbers according to road conditions and the selected driving mode.
Regenerative braking can be adjusted through steering-wheel paddles, with three selectable levels in D. Selecting B activates one-pedal driving and can bring the vehicle to a complete stop.
Up to 20-Inch Wheels
The Audi A2 e-tron will be available with 18-, 19- and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Tire widths range from 225 to 235 mm, while specially developed low-rolling-resistance tires can further improve efficiency.
Audi considers the 19-inch aerodynamic wheel and tire combination the most efficient setup, while the 20-inch option provides a sportier appearance.
Recycled Materials and More Sustainable Production
Audi is also emphasizing the use of recycled materials in the A2 e-tron.
More than 300 components contain recycled steel, aluminum or plastics, while more than 100 components incorporate post-consumer recycled materials.
The company is also using recycled materials in the interior. Certain Softwrap materials and optional sport seats use 100% recycled polyester.
Audi says it has designed components to make them easier to recycle or reuse at the end of their service life, including reducing the number of different plastics used in some components.
Production takes place at Audi’s main plant in Ingolstadt, Germany, where the A2 e-tron is built alongside the combustion-powered A3.
2027 Audi A2 e-tron Price and UK Availability
The Audi A2 e-tron will enter the UK market with a starting price of £32,200 on the road.
UK order books are scheduled to open in October 2026, with the first deliveries expected in early 2027.
With a maximum claimed range of 401 miles, fast charging up to 183 kW, rear-wheel drive, bidirectional charging and extensive standard driver assistance technology, the A2 e-tron gives Audi a new entry point into electric mobility.
