Jaguar Reveals Official Name of Its 1,000-HP Electric Flagship

Jaguar has officially confirmed the name of its highly anticipated electric grand tourer: Type 01. The announcement marks a pivotal step in the brand’s bold reinvention, signaling a complete reset as it transitions into an all-electric luxury automaker.

The four-door electric GT is positioned as the first model in a new generation of Jaguars, combining heritage-inspired naming with cutting-edge technology and design.

A Name Rooted in Heritage—With a Clear Electric Message

Jaguar’s “Type” naming convention carries deep historical significance, dating back to iconic models such as the C-Type, E-Type and F-Type. With the Type 01, that legacy continues—but with a modern twist.

The naming structure is intentional:

– “Type” connects the car to Jaguar’s performance lineage
– “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions and electric propulsion
– “1” signifies the first model in a completely new era

This approach blends nostalgia with forward-looking ambition, reinforcing Jaguar’s shift toward electrification while preserving its identity.

Performance: Over 1,000 HP From Tri-Motor Power

Jaguar is aiming squarely at the top tier of the electric luxury segment. The Type 01 will feature a tri-motor setup delivering more than 1,000 HP and over 1,300 Nm of torque, placing it firmly among the most powerful EVs in development.

Beyond raw performance, the new platform promises:

– Engaging driving dynamics
– Refined ride comfort
– Advanced chassis architecture

The vehicle is built on Jaguar’s new JEA (Jaguar Electric Architecture), a dedicated EV platform developed from scratch to support both performance and design innovation.

Range and Charging: Up to 478 Miles

Jaguar is targeting highly competitive range figures for the Type 01:

– Up to 770 km (478 miles) WLTP
– Up to 430 miles EPA (estimated)

Fast-charging capability is equally impressive, with the ability to add up to 200 miles (321 km) of range in just 15 minutes.

These figures position the Type 01 as a serious contender against premium EV rivals in both Europe and the US.

Dramatic Exterior Design Signals a Bold New Direction

The design language previewed by the Type 00 concept carries over into the Type 01, showcasing a dramatic and unmistakable presence.

Key highlights include:

– A bold front fascia with upright, flush surfaces
– Slim, distinctive light signatures emphasizing width
– Hidden elements such as deployable cameras and air intakes
– A sculptural rear with a glassless tailgate and full-width lighting

Unique details—like brass ingots with laser-etched Jaguar leapers—add a sense of craftsmanship rarely seen in modern EV design.

Interior: A Multi-Sensory Luxury Experience

Inside, Jaguar is pushing boundaries with a cabin designed to engage all the senses.

The interior features:

– A dramatic 3.2-meter brass spine running through the cabin
– Floating seats supported by travertine stone elements
– Woven textiles and wool blends for a handcrafted feel

One of the most innovative features is the Prism case, allowing occupants to customize the cabin atmosphere using natural material “totems” like brass, travertine and alabaster. These influence lighting, sound, visuals and even scent, creating a highly personalized environment.

A New Design Philosophy

The Type 01 reflects Jaguar’s redefined creative direction, built around three core principles:

– Exuberant: bold, fearless design and experiences
– Modernist: future-focused but respectful of heritage
– Compelling: emotionally engaging and sensory-driven

This philosophy extends beyond vehicles, shaping how the brand interacts with customers and positions itself in the luxury market.

What’s Next?

Prototype versions of the Jaguar Type 01 will appear on public roads, including Monaco during a Formula E race weekend, offering an early glimpse of the production-ready design.

The full reveal is scheduled for late 2026, with the Type 01 becoming the first production model in Jaguar’s next-generation EV lineup.
