
MAN has unveiled a significantly upgraded version of its eTGX electric truck, bringing a larger battery, improved regenerative braking and better aerodynamics to its long-haul heavy-duty EV.
The updated MAN eTGX is making its public debut at IAA Transportation in Hanover, where MAN is also showing near-production electric versions of its TGE van developed with Swiss company Flux.
The biggest change is the eTGX’s increased battery capacity and range. In its most capable configuration, the electric truck can now travel up to 720 kilometres on a single charge, making it one of Europe’s longest-range battery-electric trucks.
MAN eTGX Gets a New Battery Generation
The first-generation MAN eTGX could be equipped with up to six battery packs. Each pack offered 89 kWh of gross capacity and 80 kWh usable, giving the truck a maximum of 534 kWh gross or 480 kWh net capacity.
The new battery generation increases capacity to 92 kWh gross and 88 kWh net per pack. MAN continues to use NMC cell chemistry and produces the battery systems at its Nuremberg facility.
The updated eTGX can also accommodate a seventh battery pack when configured as a 6×2 tractor. That brings the maximum battery capacity to 644 kWh gross and 616 kWh net.
A seven-battery configuration is not available on the 4×2 tractor, which can carry up to six packs. The additional axle required for the 6×2 configuration helps manage the higher vehicle weight, payload requirements and axle loads associated with the larger battery system.
Up to 720 km of electric range
With seven battery packs, the MAN eTGX 6×2 can achieve a claimed range of up to 720 km. MAN says more than 600 km should be realistically achievable in everyday long-haul operations.
That figure puts the new eTGX ahead of the recently introduced Volvo FH Aero Electric 6×2, which has a claimed range of up to 700 km.
The popular 4×2 configuration also receives a substantial range boost. With six batteries, it now offers 552 kWh of gross capacity and 528 kWh usable. MAN quotes a maximum range of 660 km, while more than 500 km is expected under typical real-world long-haul conditions.
The improvements are not solely down to the larger battery.
Improved Aerodynamics and Regenerative Braking
MAN has also made changes to the eTGX’s exterior to improve efficiency. The front of the truck has been extended by 120 millimetres, taking advantage of EU regulations that allow additional vehicle length for zero-emission trucks.
The redesigned front end is intended to improve aerodynamics while also increasing safety and direct visibility for the driver.
Regenerative braking has also been improved by as much as 20 percent. Combined with the larger battery, improved aerodynamics and other efficiency upgrades, these changes help the eTGX extract more usable range from every kilowatt-hour.
The truck also supports megawatt charging. MAN began offering the eTGX with an MCS connector as standard earlier this year, enabling charging at up to 750 kW. When using a conventional CCS connection, charging power is limited to 375 kW.
For long-haul operators, the combination of higher battery capacity and megawatt charging could make battery-electric trucks considerably easier to integrate into demanding daily routes.

MAN Shows Electric TGE Vans at IAA Transportation
The eTGX is not the only electric commercial vehicle attracting attention at MAN’s IAA Transportation display.
The company is also presenting two near-series electric TGE vehicles developed together with Swiss specialist Flux. The TGE is closely related to the Volkswagen Crafter and has historically been offered primarily with combustion engines.
The Flux-developed electric versions are aimed at applications where conventional electric vans can struggle, including emergency services, fire departments and municipal operations.
The two vehicles have permissible gross weights of 4.0 and 5.5 tonnes, with the larger version offering payload capacity of up to 2,500 kg and towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg.
Both use a 119 kWh battery, with a claimed range of up to 480 km. DC fast charging at up to 140 kW can take the battery from 10 to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes.
The vehicles are also designed to support demanding applications such as all-wheel drive and electric auxiliary equipment, opening up additional possibilities for electrification in specialist commercial fleets.
MAN is also working with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles on the next generation of its electric TGE family.
The previous MAN eTGE was discontinued in 2024, but the company says cooperation with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles remains important to the development of the TGE across different powertrain technologies.
A successor to the eTGE is expected to arrive alongside the next Volkswagen e-Crafter. Current expectations point toward 2028 rather than an immediate replacement.
For now, however, the updated MAN eTGX represents the more significant step in MAN’s electrification strategy. With up to 616 kWh of usable battery capacity, 720 km of claimed range, improved recuperation and 750 kW megawatt charging, the new electric truck demonstrates how quickly battery-electric technology is advancing into long-distance commercial transport.
The combination of greater range and faster charging could help make electric heavy trucks increasingly practical for high-mileage European freight operations.
