Ohme Expands Volkswagen Group Integration Across Europe for Smarter EV Home Charging

Home charging is quickly becoming the backbone of EV ownership—and it’s getting a major upgrade for drivers across Europe. UK-based charging specialist Ohme has announced an expanded integration with Volkswagen Group Info Services AG, bringing smarter, more automated home charging to a wide range of electric vehicles.

The move builds on an existing partnership in the UK and Ireland, extending the benefits to drivers across Europe and reinforcing the shift toward intelligent, data-driven charging.

At the core of this update is a new official API that allows Ohme chargers to communicate directly with compatible vehicles. This enables near real-time access to a car’s state of charge—removing the guesswork from home charging.

Drivers of electric models from Volkswagen, Škoda, SEAT, Cupra, Audi, and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles—primarily those built on the MEB platform—can now see live battery data directly in the Ohme app.

This tighter integration means the system can automatically optimize charging sessions based on how much energy the car actually needs, rather than relying on manual input or estimates.

Ohme’s chargers, including the Home Pro and Home Pro MID, are designed to take full advantage of flexible electricity tariffs. By automatically shifting charging to off-peak periods when electricity prices are lower, the system can significantly reduce running costs over time.

As dynamic energy pricing becomes more common across Europe, this type of automation is increasingly valuable. Instead of manually scheduling charging sessions, users can rely on the software to find the cheapest times to plug in—without compromising convenience.

Over 100,000 Drivers Already Onboard

The integration isn’t starting from scratch. More than 100,000 Volkswagen Group EV drivers across Europe already use Ohme to manage their home charging. With this update, those users gain enhanced visibility into their energy usage, costs, and battery status—all within a single app interface.

The result is a more transparent and user-friendly charging experience, particularly for company car drivers who rely on accurate energy tracking and billing compliance.

A Timely Step as EV Ecosystems Evolve

As Europe’s EV market matures, the focus is shifting beyond vehicles themselves to the broader ecosystem—charging, software, and energy management. This partnership highlights how automakers and tech providers are working together to simplify ownership while reducing costs.

Volkswagen Group Info Services emphasizes that the timing is critical, as smarter tariffs and connected services become the norm. For Ohme, the integration signals a continued push toward fully automated, user-centric charging.

This expanded collaboration is another sign that the future of EV charging lies in seamless integration. Real-time vehicle data, intelligent scheduling, and dynamic pricing aren’t just nice-to-have features anymore—they’re quickly becoming essential.

For Volkswagen Group EV owners, the upgrade means less manual effort, greater clarity, and potentially meaningful savings over the course of a year. And for the broader market, it’s a glimpse of how connected charging solutions will define the next phase of electric mobility.
