Rocsys M1 Debuts as Multi-Bay Hands-Free Charging Solution for Robotaxi Fleets

Rocsys has introduced the Rocsys M1, a new hands-free charging system designed to support large-scale robotaxi operations. Positioned as the first solution capable of servicing multiple charging bays with a single system, the M1 aims to remove one of the most persistent bottlenecks in autonomous fleet operations: manual charging.

Currently in pilot deployment, the system is expected to enter large-scale rollout in 2027, with plans to support thousands of charging bays across North America and Europe over the coming years.

Funding Boost Signals Growth Ambitions

To accelerate its expansion, Rocsys has secured a $13 million Series A extension led by Capricorn Partners, alongside backing from Scania Invest, Forward. One, SEB Greentech Venture Capital, and Graduate Ventures. This brings the company’s total funding to $56 million, underscoring investor confidence in automated EV infrastructure as the next growth frontier.

With the global robotaxi market forecast to reach $45.7 billion by 2030, fleet sizes are expected to expand rapidly. However, as utilization increases, depot operations face mounting pressure. Manual charging—repeated thousands of times daily—adds operational costs, slows down workflows, and introduces safety concerns.

Rocsys is targeting this challenge directly by automating the charging process, allowing fleets to maintain high availability without human intervention.

Multi-Bay Design Unlocks Higher Efficiency

At the core of the Rocsys M1 is a modular architecture that enables a single unit to service up to 10 charging bays. This approach increases throughput while reducing the need for additional hardware and labor. Flexible mounting options, including overhead rail systems, allow integration into a wide range of depot layouts without sacrificing space.

In larger facilities, such as depots with 50 parking bays, the system is projected to deliver up to 75% higher operational efficiency and generate annual savings of up to $1.7 million.

Built for Real-World Complexity

The Rocsys M1 builds on years of deployment in demanding environments such as ports and logistics hubs. Using AI-powered computer vision and motion intelligence, the system adapts to changing lighting conditions, weather, and vehicle positioning. This results in a plug-in success rate exceeding 99.9% in live operations.

The platform is also designed for interoperability, supporting different EV models, charging systems, and connector types. Its robotic arm can reliably connect and disconnect vehicles regardless of charging port location, eliminating the need for costly vehicle modifications.

Integrated Platform for Fully Autonomous Depots

Beyond hardware, the M1 is part of a broader ecosystem that combines software, APIs, and remote monitoring tools. Through a centralized portal, operators gain real-time visibility into depot performance, while integrated services ensure vehicles remain charged and ready for deployment.

This platform approach positions Rocsys as more than a hardware provider, offering a complete infrastructure layer for autonomous mobility.

Industry Momentum Builds Around Automation

As robotaxi deployments move from pilot phases toward commercialization, infrastructure is becoming a critical differentiator. Automated charging solutions like the Rocsys M1 are expected to play a key role in enabling scalable, cost-effective operations.

With strong financial backing and a clear roadmap toward mass deployment, Rocsys is positioning itself at the center of the evolving autonomous EV ecosystem—where efficiency, uptime, and automation will define long-term success.

Crijn Bouman, CEO and Co-Founder of Rocsys, said: “Autonomous vehicles are growing rapidly, and infrastructure must keep pace. Without hands-free operations, autonomy stops at the depot. Based on a platform designed to extend beyond charging to automated interior cleaning and inspection, the Rocsys M1 introduces smart charging infrastructure for continuous, real-world use at scale, validated by signing a major robotaxi deal. It enables operators to run mixed fleets autonomously, reliably and without interruption. This is the missing link for robotaxi operators to move from pilots to global deployment.”
