Mercedes-Benz Partners with Liquid AI to Power Next-Gen In-Car Intelligence

Mercedes-Benz has announced a multi-year strategic partnership with Liquid AI aimed at advancing embedded, on-device intelligence across its future vehicle lineup.

The collaboration focuses on models equipped with third- and fourth-generation MBUX systems in North America, marking a significant step toward more capable and private in-car AI experiences.

At the core of this initiative is the integration of Liquid AI’s proprietary Liquid Foundation Models (LFM), designed to run directly on vehicle hardware. Unlike traditional cloud-based systems, these models process data locally, enabling faster response times, improved reliability, and enhanced data privacy.

Smarter, Faster, and More Private MBUX Experience

The partnership will significantly evolve the MBUX Virtual Assistant by combining voice control, contextual understanding, and vehicle functionality into a more seamless user experience. Drivers can expect more natural conversations with their vehicles, supported by real-time processing that doesn’t rely on constant internet connectivity.

Built on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, the new system aims to deliver a highly responsive and intuitive interface. By embedding key components of the voice interaction stack directly into the car, Mercedes-Benz is targeting consistent performance across a wide range of everyday driving scenarios.

Production Deployment Planned for 2026

Mercedes-Benz confirmed that the first production deployment of this advanced speech and AI technology is targeted for the second half of 2026. The rollout will initially focus on North American models equipped with the latest MBUX generations.

The move reflects a broader industry shift toward software-defined vehicles, where intelligent systems play a central role in enhancing the driving experience. By leveraging on-device AI, Mercedes-Benz aims to reduce latency while maintaining high efficiency and reliability.

Reducing Dependence on the Cloud

One of the key advantages of Liquid AI’s technology is its ability to operate independently of cloud infrastructure. This reduces the need for continuous data exchange, resulting in faster processing and improved data security.

At the same time, the system will complement existing cloud-based large language models, ensuring that drivers benefit from both local and connected intelligence. This hybrid approach allows Mercedes-Benz to deliver optimal performance across a wide range of use cases.

Building the Future of In-Car AI

Beyond voice assistants, the collaboration opens the door to broader applications of embedded AI in future Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Both companies have indicated plans to explore additional product development opportunities as the partnership evolves.

As automakers continue to invest in digital ecosystems, this partnership highlights a growing emphasis on bringing intelligence closer to the user—directly into the vehicle itself. With on-device AI poised to become a key differentiator, Mercedes-Benz is positioning its next-generation models at the forefront of in-car innovation.
