Webasto supplies battery and roof system for the Kia EV3

Webasto strengthens its position as one of the leading pioneers of electrified mobility: the top 100 automotive supplier is producing traction batteries and openable roof systems for the new Kia EV3.

Webasto is supplying two battery versions for the EV3: with 58.3 and 81.4 kilowatt-hours (kWh). The resulting range of up to 605 kilometers is at the top end of the range for this class. The batteries can also each be charged from 10 to 80 percent in around half an hour.

For open air feeling the Kia EV3 is optionally available with an openable sunroof from Webasto. Designed with a huge movable glass panel, it blends elegantly into the vehicle silhouette and provides additional light and fresh air in the vehicle at the push of a button.

Both components are produced in South Korea: the roof at the Ulsan plant and the battery in Dangjin. At the latter, Webasto now produces up to 1,000 battery packs a day for various electric vehicles of the Hyundai-Kia Group at its state-of-the-art production facilities.

The opening of Dangjin in 2022 was a milestone in the development of electric mobility business for Webasto. Since then, the supplier has been able to provide its South Korean customers with its comprehensive portfolio, which has been expanded to include electrified mobility solutions. With the production of batteries and roof systems for the Kia EV3, Webasto is underlining its innovative strength and commitment to sustainable mobility.

“The Kia EV3 is not only confirmation that Webasto meets the highest technical requirements, but also an excellent example of our deep understanding of vehicle architecture”, says Chief Technology Office (CTO) Marcel Bartling. “Both the roof and the battery are essential components of a vehicle that have a significant influence on its shape and interior comfort. These components make a decisive contribution to the overall quality and driving experience.”
