New BMW iX4 Revealed With Up to 514 Miles of Range

BMW is expanding its Neue Klasse electric vehicle lineup with the new BMW iX4, an all-electric SUV coupe that combines a sporty design with the latest generation of BMW EV technology.

Set to launch in March 2027, the BMW iX4 will initially be offered in two all-wheel-drive variants, the iX4 50 xDrive and iX4 40 xDrive. A high-performance BMW iX4 M60 xDrive will follow, delivering 612 horsepower and 875 Nm of torque.

The new iX4 is built around BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology, bringing an 800-volt electrical architecture, cylindrical battery cells, faster charging and significantly improved driving range.

BMW iX4 Offers Up to 514 Miles of Range

The BMW iX4 50 xDrive will be the range-focused model at launch. Its dual-motor all-wheel-drive system produces up to 345 kW, or 469 horsepower, and 645 Nm of torque.

BMW says the iX4 50 xDrive can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 130 mph. Its 108.7-kWh usable battery provides a maximum range of up to 514 miles.

The 400-kW DC charging capability is another major highlight. BMW says a 10-minute charging session can add as much as 240 miles of range, making the iX4 one of the fastest-charging models in the company’s electric lineup.

The BMW iX4 40 xDrive will produce 275 kW, equivalent to 374 horsepower, and 520 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds and offers a maximum range of 396 miles.

Both launch versions use an electric motor on each axle, giving the iX4 all-wheel-drive traction and strong performance.

BMW iX4 M60 xDrive Packs 612 HP

The range-topping BMW iX4 M60 xDrive takes performance to another level.

Its dual-motor setup produces 450 kW, or 612 horsepower, and 875 Nm of torque. BMW says the M Performance SUV coupe can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds, while its electronically limited top speed is 149 mph.

Despite its performance focus, the iX4 M60 xDrive can travel up to 483 miles on a charge. The model also gets an M-specific all-wheel-drive system, adaptive M suspension and an electronically controlled M locking differential at the rear axle.

The M60 xDrive also stands out visually with M-specific exterior elements, including a special rear spoiler, black Shadowline kidney trim, 21-inch wheels and M Sport brakes.

New Neue Klasse Design Gives the iX4 a Sportier Look

The BMW iX4 adopts the Neue Klasse design language while giving it a more aggressive SUV coupe character.

A long wheelbase, short overhangs and sloping roofline create the model’s distinctive silhouette. At the front, BMW’s new kidney grille and twin headlights form a single visual graphic, while the M60 xDrive adds elements from BMW’s latest M design language.

At the rear, slim horizontal taillights and a prominent integrated spoiler emphasize the vehicle’s width and sporting character. The M60 xDrive receives an additional M-specific rear spoiler.

BMW will offer the iX4 with nine exterior colors initially, with additional Frozen finishes and BMW Individual colors becoming available later.

Spacious Interior With BMW Panoramic iDrive

Inside, the iX4 combines the minimalist Neue Klasse approach with a technology-focused cockpit.

The electric architecture provides a long wheelbase and helps create generous passenger space despite the coupe-style roofline. BMW says the cabin provides ample legroom and headroom, while a large panoramic sunroof and expansive windows create a bright interior.

Customers will be able to choose from seven interior configurations.

The centerpiece of the dashboard is BMW Panoramic iDrive, which combines BMW Panoramic Vision, a 3D Head-Up Display and a 17.9-inch central display. A new sports steering wheel with integrated controls completes the driver-focused cockpit.

The system is powered by BMW Operating System X and supports a range of customizable My Modes. BMW Digital Premium also brings additional in-car applications and M-specific content to the iX4 lineup.

Sixth-Generation BMW eDrive Technology

The biggest change beneath the iX4’s sleek exterior is BMW’s Gen6 electric drivetrain technology.

The system uses newly developed high-voltage batteries with cylindrical cells, an 800-volt electrical architecture and more efficient electric motors. BMW says the technology enables higher charging speeds, greater range and bidirectional charging capabilities.

The iX4 can accept up to 400 kW of DC charging power, while the new battery architecture contributes to the substantial range increase over previous-generation BMW EVs.

BMW is also introducing its Heart of Joy high-performance computer with the iX4. Working together with the BMW Dynamic Performance Control Driving Stack, the system manages key aspects of the electric drivetrain and vehicle dynamics.

BMW says Heart of Joy operates ten times faster than previous systems and reduces the number of control inputs required, helping deliver more precise and composed driving behavior.

Low Center of Gravity and Adaptive M Suspension

The iX4’s flat high-voltage battery helps lower its center of gravity, while the long wheelbase and balanced weight distribution contribute to stability and handling.

The iX4 M60 xDrive gets adaptive M suspension as standard, including electronically controlled dampers and sport steering with a variable rack-and-pinion ratio. The system is designed to balance everyday comfort with sharper handling when the driver wants a more engaging experience.

Adaptive M suspension will also be available as an option on other iX4 variants. The M60 xDrive additionally receives two M-exclusive driving modes, M Sport and M Sport Plus.

Advanced Driver Assistance Technology

The new BMW iX4 will also feature a broad range of driver-assistance and active safety technologies.

BMW says artificial intelligence plays a greater role in the vehicle’s assistance systems, helping reduce driver workload during partially automated driving and parking.

BMW Symbiotic Drive is designed to make interaction between the driver and assistance systems more intuitive, while the Motorway Assistant can enable hands-free driving at speeds of up to 81 mph in numerous countries, along with assisted lane changes on approved routes.

BMW iX4: A Major New Neue Klasse EV

The new BMW iX4 represents an important step in BMW’s Neue Klasse electric vehicle strategy. With up to 514 miles of range, 400-kW charging, an 800-volt architecture and a 612-hp M Performance variant, the iX4 combines long-distance capability with the performance expected from a BMW SUV coupe.

The iX4 40 xDrive and iX4 50 xDrive are scheduled to launch in March 2027, with the high-performance iX4 M60 xDrive joining the lineup shortly afterward. The result is an electric SUV coupe lineup that puts BMW’s latest battery, software, charging and driving technologies into one of its most distinctive new EV designs.
