Jaguar has officially unveiled the Type 01, a radically styled four-door electric GT that marks the beginning of a completely new era for the British luxury brand.
With more than 1,000 horsepower, a 118-kWh battery, an 850-volt electrical architecture and an expected EPA range of up to 400 miles, the Jaguar Type 01 is designed to make a statement in the ultra-luxury EV segment.
The new model will be built in the UK and is scheduled to enter production in 2027. Orders are expected to open in early 2027, with UK pricing starting at £130,000.
A Radical New Direction for Jaguar
The Type 01 represents the first major production model under Jaguar’s dramatic brand transformation. The company has moved away from its previous lineup and adopted a completely new visual identity built around its “Copy Nothing” philosophy.
That philosophy is particularly obvious in the Type 01’s design.
The electric GT features an unusually long hood, a heavily rearward cabin, massive 23-inch wheels and extremely short front overhangs. Its proportions are closer to an exotic grand tourer than a conventional electric sedan.
The front end has no traditional grille, while the rear eliminates the conventional rear windshield in favor of an unconventional camera-based rear-view system. Jaguar has also integrated the lighting elements into the sculpted rear bodywork.
Despite its large and dramatic shape, the Type 01 has a claimed drag coefficient of just 0.23, making it Jaguar’s most aerodynamic production vehicle.

1,015 Horsepower From Three Electric Motors
The Type 01 is not relying on its styling alone to attract attention.
Jaguar has equipped the electric GT with three electric motors, consisting of one motor at the front and two at the rear. Combined output is rated at approximately 1,015 horsepower and 1,007 lb-ft of torque.
Jaguar estimates a 0-60 mph time of around 3.1 seconds, while the company quotes 0-62 mph in approximately 3.2 seconds.
The powertrain is built around an 850-volt electrical architecture and a 118-kWh usable battery.
Jaguar is also targeting a 50/50 weight distribution. Some of the battery cells are positioned ahead of the driver rather than placing the entire pack beneath the passenger compartment, helping engineers optimize weight distribution and the driving position.
Up to 400 Miles of EPA Range
Range is another major part of the Type 01’s appeal.
Jaguar estimates an EPA range of up to 400 miles, although sustained highway driving at higher speeds is expected to reduce that figure to around 320 miles.
The battery and charging system are designed to support high-speed DC charging. Connected to a 350-kW rapid charger, the Type 01 can reportedly add around 200 miles of range in approximately 13 minutes.
Jaguar also estimates a 10-to-80 percent charging session at roughly 22 minutes.
The split battery architecture allows the vehicle to support both 400-volt and 800-volt charging systems.

A Technology-Focused Luxury Interior
Inside, Jaguar has taken an equally unconventional approach.
The dashboard is dominated by a 24-inch OLED touchscreen, while 7-inch portrait-oriented displays are provided for both front and rear occupants to control functions such as climate and seat settings.
The infotainment system is based on an Nvidia-powered architecture and supports over-the-air software updates. Jaguar says the system also helps reduce the amount of wiring required throughout the vehicle.
The audio system features a 13-speaker soundbar-style arrangement, supplemented by additional speakers throughout the cabin for functions such as active noise cancellation.
However, the Type 01’s dramatic exterior proportions come with compromises.
The rear seats accommodate only two passengers, while the small windows and low roof can make the cabin feel relatively enclosed. Rear access is also restricted by unusually small door openings.
Cargo capacity is another weak point. The long hood does not translate into a large front trunk, while the rear cargo area is limited by the vehicle’s design and packaging.
In other words, the Type 01 prioritizes design and performance over outright practicality.
Built in Britain
The Jaguar Type 01 will be designed, engineered and manufactured in the UK.
Production will take place at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull facility using the company’s dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Electric drive units and battery packs will be produced in Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels will be manufactured in Halewood, Merseyside.
Production is scheduled to begin in 2027.
JLR says nearly 9,000 employees at its Solihull plant have already been retrained to build electric vehicles, with another 1,500 employees trained across its wider West Midlands operations.
Jaguar Type 01 Price and Availability
The Jaguar Type 01 is positioned firmly in the luxury performance EV market.
In the UK, pricing will start at £130,000, while U.S. pricing is expected to be around $130,000.
Orders are expected to open in early 2027, with customer deliveries scheduled for later in 2027.
The Type 01 is clearly not intended to be a mass-market electric car. Jaguar itself acknowledges that the model will not appeal to everyone. Instead, it is intended to establish a new identity for Jaguar and attract buyers looking for something dramatically different from conventional luxury EVs.
