BYD UK expands DOLPHIN lineup with Active and Boost trims

BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), announced the arrival of two new trim additions, Active and Boost to the pure-electric BYD DOLPHIN, completing the line up with the already popular BYD DOLPHIN Comfort and Design trims. This all-new C-segment hatchback combines distinctive ‘playful’ design aesthetics with versatility, agility and an abundance of standard equipment, together with BYD’s game-changing EV technology.

The BYD DOLPHIN is the first model in the Ocean series and the first to adopt BYD’s “Ocean Aesthetics” design concept giving it a distinctive and stylish appearance. Influencing the car’s design is the dolphin; an intelligent, playful and friendly marine mammal, which is depicted in both figurative and imaginative forms. The BYD DOLPHIN offers a 60.4 kWh and now a 44.9 kWh – Lithium Iron Phosphate BYD Blade Battery, and benefits from an exclusive safety body structure for pure-electric vehicles. It also has a complete range of active and passive safety features, which gives it an incomparable advantage in terms of safety performance. The BYD DOLPHIN also features a safe passenger compartment environment, with intelligent driver assistance systems and integrated braking systems for safer travel and easier driving.

The BYD DOLPHIN features the Blade Battery, a cobalt-free Lithium Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery that passed the rigorous Nail Penetration Test. Known for its superior safety and thermal stability, the Blade Battery offers high power density and ultra-low energy consumption, ensuring both durability and top performance.

The Blade Battery seamlessly integrates with BYD’s advanced e-Platform 3.0, featured in the DOLPHIN, ATTO 3 and SEAL, enhancing system efficiency and vehicle intelligence. The 8-in-1 electric powertrain, combining key components like the Vehicle Control Unit and Battery Management System, achieves an incredible 89% efficiency, delivering optimal performance and an improved driving experience.

BYD DOLPHIN Active 44.9 kWh battery is combined with a 70 kW (95 ps) motor and can be charged by AC power up to 7 kW and by DC power up to 65 kW and has a range (WLTP) of 211 miles. The Boost 44.9 kWh battery is paired with a 130 kW (176 ps) motor and can be charged with an 11 kW AC (3-phase) charger or by DC power up to 65 kW, delivering a range of 193 miles. A 100 kW DC charger can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in just 28 minutes for both models.

The BYD DOLPHIN prioritizes efficiency, featuring a standard high-efficiency heat pump and the industry’s first direct cooling and heating system for batteries, boosting thermal efficiency by up to 15% in winter. This innovative system manages heat from various sources, enhancing low temperature driving range. Additionally, the CRBS regenerative braking system efficiently recovers braking energy.

Based on the BYD DOLPHIN’s new energy attributes, the short front and rear overhangs and long wheelbase give the car a more spacious appearance. Measuring 4,290 mm long and 1,770 mm wide (with wing mirrors unfolded), the BYD DOLPHIN features a 2,700 mm wheelbase optimised for space and comfort. The vehicle height is 1,570 mm.

The BYD DOLPHIN offers seating for five, with ergonomically designed vegan leather sports seats, including heated front seats with electric adjustments. The rear seats provide ample legroom, thanks to the e-Platform 3.0, and can be split 60:40 to expand the 345-litre boot to 1,310 litres. The vehicle also includes over 20 practical storage spaces.

The entire BYD DOLPHIN range provides Vehicle to Load (VtoL) discharge back technology, which can achieve 3.3kW external discharge, allowing the new energy vehicle to become a mobile power station. This provides convenience for activities such as outdoor picnics and open-air movies, allowing multiple lifestyle applications.

The BYD DOLPHIN comes standard with an abundance of fully loaded safety and advanced driver assistance features usually found on only the highest priced EV’s. All models feature Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Brake, Lane Departure Prevention and Emergency Lane Keeping Assist.  Adaptive Cruise Control and Intelligent Cruise Control add to the enjoyment of driving. The panoramic camera provides the driver with 360-degree visibility for safe vehicle manoeuvring. In addition, a Blind Spot Detection System, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill Decent Control, Automatic Vehicle Hold, and Traffic Sign Recognition with Intelligent Speed Limit Control are included as additional driver aids.  Cutting-edge lighting technology also provides a broader beam of light to assist visibility when driving at night, with High Beam Assist, Adaptive Front Headlights and Follow Me Home as a standard.

The newly introduced BYD DOLPHIN Active and Boost trims, along with the Comfort and Design trims are available to purchase at local BYD UK dealers now.
