BYD SEAL U PHEV SUV makes European debut at Geneva Motor Show. The BYD SEAL U will be available to European customers from Q2 2024.

Chinese biggest EV maker BYD presented the BYD SEAL U DM-i with Super DM (Dual Mode) Technology to European consumers for the first time at Geneva International Motor Show 2024. The BYD SEAL U DM-i D-Segment plug-in hybrid SUV, is the first BYD vehicle in Europe to use the brand’s highly advanced Super DM Technology that prioritises electric driving with ultra-low fuel consumption and energy efficiency.

The BYD SEAL U DM-i provides an efficient, practical and accessible solution for both daily mobility needs and long-range worry-free journeys without the need for stopping to charge enroute. Quiet, comfortable and smooth, its unique technologies combine all the performance and eco-friendly qualities of electric driving, with the practical benefits of longer range, exceptional energy efficiency and fuel economies.

An ideal family-sized car, the five-seater BYD SEAL U DM-i is a fusion of elegant dynamic style, high-tech intelligent experiences and practical SUV functionality (the U standing for Utility), producing a highly desirable, affordable vehicle that is more compassionate to the environment, without compromising on range or performance. It will be available to European customers from Q2 2024.

The BYD SEAL U DM-i uses the brand’s ‘Ocean Aesthetics’ design language which takes its inspiration from the graceful contours and movement of the ocean, capturing the beauty of nature. It is characterised by a distinctive X shaped front face, contoured bonnet and front bumper with integrated LED headlights and dual lenses that give the vehicle a strong sense of power, safety and stability. The dynamic sloping waistline and balanced body proportions project a sleek and elegant silhouette, further emphasised by sporty bi-colour 19-inch alloy wheels. From the rear, the continuous dot matrix ‘water drop’ inspired LED taillights with full width flowing light bar accentuate the high-tech aura of the car.

The modern interior has a premium-feel, creating a rich haven of technology, with many ocean-inspired design features. High quality vegan leather upholstery offers refinement and comfort, further enhanced with atmospheric mood lighting. The sumptuous, adjustable seats have integrated front and rear headrests. There is an ‘Ocean-heart’ centre console and a crystal gear selector, with a 15.6” rotatable full LCD touchscreen, OTA updates, as well as a premium Infinity sound system, voice command and Bluetooth wireless charging.

Generous vehicle proportions comfortably seat five adult occupants. Optimised for space and comfort, the vehicle measures 4,775 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,765 mm. The seats can be split 60:40 allowing the 552-litre boot to be increased to 1,440 litres when both seats are folded.

The BYD SEAL U DM-i offers a high level of standard equipment, including ADAS, intelligent driver assistance with a multitude of features, with active and passive functionality to make driving safer, easier and even more pleasurable.

BYD always prioritises safety. The latest BYD Super DM Technology has an ultra-strong body with omni-directional collision energy absorption enhancing overall structural protection.

Super DM Technology is BYD’s cutting-edge proprietary DM-i hybrid technology developed for exceptional energy efficiency and excellent ride comfort. The DM-i (Dual Mode) technology integrates the highly efficient engine, the electric hybrid system, a tailor-made Blade Battery and the AC/DC On-board Charger. The electric hybrid system at the heart of the car prioritises electric drive with less reliance on the engine for power for optimum efficiencies through ultra-low fuel consumption.

BYD Super DM Technology also features a high-power electric motor and an efficient BYD Blade Battery with pulse heating technology as standard; world-first technology that increases heating efficiency by an additional 10%. This is complemented by the in-house developed hybrid engine using innovative technologies to achieve outstanding thermal efficiency.

There is the option of fast DC charging – 30-80% in 35 minutes (18kW power).

The BYD SEAL U DM-i also has VTOL as standard allowing external devices to be conveniently charged or powered by the car battery, when out on journeys.
