Polestar Establishes New Headquarters In Torslanda, Sweden

Polestar, the new Electric Performance brand of Volvo Cars, has started construction of a new headquarter building located in Torslanda, Sweden, on the same campus as the main Volvo Cars head offices and factory.

”The new Polestar headquarters will be the heart and home of our growing team,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Chief Executive Officer of Polestar. “It is an architectural translation of what our brand stands for – it is pure and uncompromised. The open layout will serve as an inspiring and creative workspace for our rapidly-developing team of skilled co-workers. Moving to the Volvo Cars’ campus in Torslanda, in close proximity to our parent company, is also a key part of our close cooperation with them.”

The design of the interior and exterior has been completed by the renowned Swedish architects, Bornstein & Lyckefors, in close co-operation with Polestar.

The new Polestar head office building consists of three levels and offers 3,800 square meters of office space and development area for up to 200 employees, up from 110 Polestar employees today in Sweden.

The building will feature an open layout, with a rather imposing-looking white facade. There’ll be a showroom incorporated into the facility as well to showcase the electrified vehicles the brand is preparing to produce.

Construction of the new headquarters will be completed in September 2018.

“We have created an uncompromising and minimalistic ‘cube’ as the main feature of the building that, with its technical solutions and details, creates a clear link between architecture and modern product design,” said Per Bornstein of Bornstein & Lyckefors. “One of its unique design features is a white facade made entirely in glass that lets around 60% of the light through, a first in Sweden and a challenge both in terms of design and engineering, but completely in line with Polestar’s progressive approach.”

In a related news, Hans Pehrson has been appointed Head of Research and Development and Electric Propulsion Strategy at Polestar. Pehrson has worked for over 30 years within the automotive industry, including positions such as Technical Director for the Volvo C30 Electric – the first electric car of the Volvo Car Group, manager of Volvo Cars Electric Propulsion System Engineering and most recently supporting the London EV Company with the new London Taxi.

Part of his role as Head of R&D will be responsibility for the Polestar electric propulsion strategy and he will be a member of the Polestar Management Team.

The appointment of Hans Pehrson is a key part of the development of the new Polestar brand and the coming first model, the Polestar 1, a 600hp Electric Performance Hybrid Grand Touring Coupé with a range of 150km (99 miles) on pure electric power – the longest electric range of any hybrid in the world.
