Nelson Piquet Jr. joins Jaguar; Mahindra retain Heidfeld & Rosenqvist for season four

Panasonic Jaguar Racing has announced that Nelson Piquet Jr. – will join Mitch Evans for their second season in the FIA Formula E Championship, with Ho-Pin Tung remaining as the official reserve driver.

Following on from a difficult couple of seasons since being crowned champion, Piquet has left the NIO Formula E Team to drive for one of Formula E’s newest manufacturers. Evans has been retained by the team for a second season after an impressive debut in the electric street racing series, in which he secured the team’s best points-scoring finish at the Julius Baer Mexico City ePrix, finishing just outside of the podium in fourth.

The team will hit the track in their season two challenger, the Jaguar I-TYPE 2, along with the nine other Formula E teams at the official pre-season test in Valencia this October, before season four gets underway in Hong Kong on December 2 & 3.

In a related news, Mahindra Racing has confirmed that Nick Heidfeld and Felix Rosenqvist will remain as the team’s driver line-up for season four of the FIA Formula E Championship.

Rosenqvist, who will be partnering with the team on a long-term basis, was last season’s top-scoring rookie, securing Mahindra’s maiden victory at the Berlin ePrix at Tempelhof in June. Alongside three impressive Julius Baer pole positions, the Swedish driver secured third place in the drivers’ and teams’ championship – the team’s highest championship standing to date in Formula E.

Heidfeld will stay with the team for a third season after a strong year behind the wheel. It started with a spectacular podium finish in the season-opener in Hong Kong, and included a hat-trick of third-place finishes in Monaco, Paris and Berlin, before taking home his and the team’s final podium at the inaugural Qualcomm New York City ePrix.

Mahindra has also once again tasked the fans with designing their livery for their season four championship contender, the M4Electro, and will look to add a reserve driver to their roster for the upcoming season.
