BMW i announced as title sponsor for Berlin ePrix

BMW i, the sub-brand of premium German car manufacturer BMW, has been unveiled as the title sponsor for round eight of the 2015-2016 FIA Formula E Championship in Berlin on May 21.

Held on a bespoke track in the heart of the German capital winding its way around Strausberger Platz and towards Alexanderplatz along Karl-Marx-Allee, the race will be titled the 2016 FIA Formula E BMW i Berlin ePrix.

BMW supplied course cars throughout the inaugural Formula E season and continue to bring a fleet of its highly advanced fully-electric and hybrid vehicles to every race. The BMW i8 sports car is once again being used as the Qualcomm Safety Car and the all-electric BMW i3 performing the role of Medical Car.

Sam Piccione III, Chief Revenue Officer at Formula E, said: “It’s fantastic news that BMW i has put its name to the Berlin ePrix for the first running of Formula E on the streets of the German capital. Germany is a key player in the production and manufacturing of electric vehicles which is shown in BMW’s role as the Official Vehicle Partner of the championship. The backdrop of the race in Berlin will make for a truly spectacular event, especially with the continued support of BMW.”

“As a pioneer in the field of electric mobility, we know that we must forge new paths, while at the same time remaining true to our fundamental values,” says Joerg Reimann, Vice President BMW Brand Experience. “As title sponsor of the 2016 FIA Formula E BMW i Berlin ePrix, we now have another opportunity to do just this with BMW i, in addition to our existing partnership as Official Vehicle Partner. BMW i and Formula E are very well suited to one another. We are delighted to be prominently represented with BMW i at the race weekend in the German capital.”
