BYD has unveiled the ATTO 8, a new flagship electric SUV that combines seven-seat practicality, up to 405 miles of WLTP range and ultra-fast FLASH Charging. Revealed at the 2026 Paris Auto Show, the large electric SUV is scheduled to arrive in European markets in the first quarter of 2027.
The ATTO 8 will become the flagship of BYD’s expanding SUV lineup, sitting above models such as the ATTO 2, ATTO 3, SEALION 5 and SEAL U. With rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, a large 115-kWh battery and a technology-focused interior, the new model targets families looking for a spacious electric SUV without sacrificing range or performance.
However, its biggest selling point could be charging speed. BYD says the ATTO 8 can charge from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes using its new FLASH Charging technology.
BYD ATTO 8: Range, Performance and Specifications
The BYD ATTO 8 will be available in two fully electric versions, allowing buyers to choose between maximum range and stronger performance.
The entry-level Design RWD uses a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle, producing 462 PS (340 kW) and 365 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in eight seconds and delivers a claimed WLTP combined range of 405 miles.
The range-topping Excellence AWD adds a second electric motor on the front axle, increasing total output to 775 PS (570 kW) and 775 Nm of torque. This version can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.6 seconds, putting it firmly in high-performance SUV territory.
Despite the additional power, the Excellence AWD retains a competitive claimed WLTP range of 374 miles, using the same 115-kWh battery as the rear-wheel-drive model.
The figures position the ATTO 8 as a potential alternative to large electric SUVs from established European and international automakers. Pricing and full market-specific specifications have yet to be announced.
BYD FLASH Charging Can Deliver a Near-Full Battery in Nine Minutes
The ATTO 8 is the first BYD model in Europe to feature the company’s second-generation Blade Battery, which enables its new FLASH Charging technology.
According to BYD, the system can charge the 115-kWh battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes under the stated charging conditions.
Cold weather, which can significantly reduce charging performance in electric vehicles, is also addressed. BYD claims the ATTO 8 can charge from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes at temperatures as low as -30°C.
The company summarizes the technology with its promise: “ready in 5, full in 9, cold add 3.”
These charging times could make a significant difference for drivers who regularly undertake long journeys. Instead of spending a considerable amount of time at a public charging station, owners could potentially replenish most of the battery during a short stop.
Actual charging performance will depend on factors such as charger capability, battery temperature, charging conditions and infrastructure availability.
BYD also plans to expand its FLASH Charging network across Europe, with 3,000 stations targeted by the end of 2027. The scale and availability of this network will be important in determining how easily drivers can take advantage of the technology.
Large Seven-Seat SUV With Family-Friendly Practicality
Measuring 5,040 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,760 mm tall, the BYD ATTO 8 occupies the full-size electric SUV segment.
Its exterior features slim daytime running lights, matrix LED headlights, sculpted bodywork and a prominent shoulder line. At the rear, distinctive infinity-knot taillights surround an illuminated BYD logo, while carefully integrated aerodynamic details are designed to improve airflow and support efficiency.
Inside, the ATTO 8 combines a spacious layout with premium materials and a range of comfort features. A panoramic glass roof measuring 2.39 square meters helps bring natural light into the cabin.
The dashboard incorporates a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 26-inch widescreen head-up display and a 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen. Google Built-in provides access to Google Navigation, Google Assistant and the Google Play Store.
BYD has also paid attention to passenger comfort across all three rows. The front seats feature heating, ventilation and massage functions, while the outer seats in the second row receive similar amenities. The third-row seats include adjustable headrests, and rear passengers benefit from their own air-conditioning controls.
Tri-zone climate control is standard, and all seats are upholstered in genuine leather.
Other equipment includes wireless smartphone charging, USB-C ports throughout the cabin and a front refrigerator capable of cooling to -6°C or warming to 50°C. The Design RWD receives a 10-speaker sound system, while the Excellence AWD upgrades to a 21-speaker DiSound audio system.
BYD ATTO 8 Offers Up to 1,960 Liters of Cargo Space
Practicality is another key part of the ATTO 8 package.
With all seven seats in use, the SUV offers 270 liters of luggage capacity. Folding the second and third rows increases the available cargo space to 1,960 liters.
A 136-liter front trunk, or frunk, provides additional storage for smaller bags and other items.
These figures make the ATTO 8 particularly relevant to families who need three rows of seating but still want the flexibility to transport larger loads when fewer passengers are travelling.
European sales are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027. BYD has not yet confirmed pricing for the ATTO 8.
BYD Shark DMO Pickup Makes Its European Show Debut
The ATTO 8 was not the only important model on BYD’s Paris Auto Show stand. The company also presented the Shark DMO pickup, a plug-in hybrid designed to combine electric driving with the practicality of a traditional work truck.
The five-seat pickup uses BYD’s Super Hybrid DMO powertrain, which combines two electric motors with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine.
The front electric motor produces 231 PS and 310 Nm of torque, while the rear motor delivers 204 PS and 340 Nm. Combined system output reaches 436 PS and 650 Nm, enabling acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 5.7 seconds.
The gasoline engine produces 150 PS and 240 Nm and primarily acts as a generator, supplying electricity to the motors and battery as required.
A 32.2-kWh Blade Battery gives the Shark a claimed electric-only range of up to 56 miles. With a fully charged battery and a full fuel tank, BYD estimates a total driving range of 419 miles.
The company also quotes a WLTP weighted fuel-consumption figure of 80.7 mpg, falling to 29.4 mpg when the battery’s state of charge is at its lowest. As with other plug-in hybrids, real-world fuel economy will depend heavily on charging frequency and driving conditions.
The Shark uses a ladder-frame chassis designed for durability and demanding driving conditions. Its battery is integrated into the vehicle structure using Cell-to-Chassis technology, while high-strength steel contributes to overall structural rigidity.
Charging the battery from 15% to full takes just over three hours using an 11-kW three-phase AC charger. A 55-kW DC connection can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in 21 minutes.
The pickup also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, supplying up to 6 kW of power to external equipment. This could be useful for powering tools at work sites or running electrical equipment during outdoor activities.
Inside, equipment includes heated and ventilated front seats, vegan-leather upholstery, a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system, a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 360-degree camera.
BYD plans to introduce the Shark DMO in selected markets in the coming months, followed by a broader European rollout in the first half of 2027.
BYD Dolphin Surf Gains Five-Seat Configuration and More Technology
BYD also used the Paris show to introduce an updated version of the Dolphin Surf, its entry-level electric hatchback.
The latest version adds a five-seat configuration, including an additional headrest for the middle passenger in the second row. The existing four-seat version will continue to be offered in markets where it remains suitable for customer demand.
The most notable technology upgrade is found in the range-topping Comfort trim, which receives a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Google Built-in. The digital instrument display also grows from seven inches to 8.8 inches.
The gear selector has been relocated from the dashboard to a steering-column stalk, freeing up space in the front cabin. The updated model also receives a redesigned steering wheel, which is heated on the Boost and Comfort versions.
Heated seats are now included on the Boost trim, while climate control remains standard across the range. Other changes include updated upholstery, USB-C ports, a standard boot cover and a new Skiing White exterior paint option.
Entry-level Active versions also gain 16-inch alloy wheels, replacing the previous 15-inch steel wheels. Buyers can choose from four exterior colors: Lime Green, Obsidian Black, Ice Blue and Skiing White.
With a 308-liter boot, additional seating flexibility and improved infotainment, the updated Dolphin Surf aims to strengthen BYD’s position in the affordable electric hatchback segment.
