Alpine A310 VISION Reimagines a Classic Sports Car for the Modern Era

Alpine has unveiled the A310 VISION, a striking design concept that reinterprets one of the French automaker’s most iconic sports cars for a new generation. Celebrating the heritage of the original Alpine A310, the concept combines 1970s-inspired styling with futuristic design elements, dramatic proportions and a fresh interpretation of the brand’s distinctive visual identity.

The concept marks two important milestones in the A310’s history: the 55th anniversary of the original four-cylinder model and the 50th anniversary of the A310 V6. Rather than simply recreating the classic sports car, Alpine A310 VISION explores how the model might have evolved if it had been designed using today’s technologies, materials and design philosophy.

Alpine emphasizes that A310 VISION is an independent design study, not an announcement of a future production vehicle.

Alpine A310 VISION Pays Tribute to a Sports Car Icon

First unveiled in 1971, the Alpine A310 expanded the story established by the legendary Alpine Berlinette. Its low stance, wide body and distinctive geometric lines gave it an unmistakable appearance, reflecting the French brand’s approach to lightweight, driver-focused sports cars.

The A310 VISION builds on that heritage while introducing a more contemporary interpretation of the original car’s proportions. Alpine’s design team used an original A310 as a reference, studying its surfaces, silhouette and defining details to understand what made the classic model so distinctive.

The resulting concept blends the clean, lightweight appearance of the early four-cylinder versions with the wider, more muscular stance of the later V6 models.

The objective is not nostalgia for its own sake. Instead, Alpine aims to preserve the character of the original A310 while demonstrating how its design language could evolve into a modern sports car.

Futuristic Design With Classic Alpine Proportions

The Alpine A310 VISION features an exceptionally low and wide body, with sculpted surfaces that emphasize its sporting character.

The concept measures 4.55 meters (179.1 inches) long and just 1.18 meters (46.5 inches) tall. Its width reaches 2.03 meters (79.9 inches) at the widest point of the rear, while the wheelbase measures 2.45 meters (96.5 inches).

These proportions give the concept a planted, aggressive appearance that recalls the original A310 while pushing its design in a more futuristic direction.

The exterior combines aluminium bodywork with a black lower section featuring organic forms inspired by Formula 1. A semi-transparent cabin adds another distinctive element, allowing the interior to remain partially visible while contributing to the car’s concept-car appearance.

Alpine-specific A-shaped wheels provide a further link to the past. Their triangular design references the full-metal wheels fitted to early A310 models, reinterpreted through a more contemporary approach.

The overall design balances simple, recognizable shapes with advanced aerodynamic details, creating a sports car concept that looks both retro and futuristic.

New Lighting and Aerodynamic Features

Several design elements distinguish the A310 VISION from the original sports car.

At the front, the headlights are integrated into a flexible section of the bodywork. This arrangement creates a distinctive pop-down effect, revealing the car’s character as it starts up.

The bonnet incorporates an S-duct-inspired channel, combining sharp edges with smoother transitions. Running along the center of the body, a feature Alpine calls the “Y zero” blade creates a visual line that draws the eye toward the rear.

At the back, a two-piece rear wing introduces a translucent effect inspired by ice and mountain landscapes. The rear lights take the form of slender blades and incorporate an aerodynamic function designed to contribute to downforce.

Together, these details demonstrate how Alpine is exploring the relationship between styling and aerodynamic performance. The concept uses visual elements to express speed and precision without abandoning the clean, geometric character that defined the original A310.

APP Platform Opens New Design Possibilities

The Alpine A310 VISION also highlights the creative possibilities offered by the brand’s new APP platform.

Designed to support sports-car development while retaining modularity, the platform provides a foundation for exploring different proportions, body shapes and interpretations of Alpine’s design language.

For the A310 VISION, the emphasis is on exterior design rather than revealing a complete technical specification. Alpine has not announced production plans, performance figures, battery capacity or a powertrain for the concept.

As a result, the project should be viewed primarily as a design exploration rather than evidence of an upcoming electric sports car. Its significance lies in showing how Alpine could translate its established styling principles into future vehicle designs.

A Minimalist Interior With a Futuristic Atmosphere

Although the exterior receives most of the attention, the semi-transparent cabin offers a glimpse of the concept’s interior direction.

The cockpit features organically shaped seats and bold color combinations inspired by color-block design. Physical controls take inspiration from high-end Hi-Fi equipment, adding a tactile element to the otherwise futuristic environment.

Rather than presenting a fully detailed production-ready interior, Alpine uses the cabin to extend the concept’s visual identity. The focus remains on the emotional connection between the driver, the car’s design and the brand’s sporting heritage.

This approach reinforces the idea behind A310 VISION: a modern Alpine should look forward without losing the distinctive character that made its predecessors memorable.

Could Alpine A310 VISION Become a Production Car?

For now, the Alpine A310 VISION remains an independent design concept. Alpine has not confirmed that the vehicle will enter production or that a future road car will directly follow its styling.

Nevertheless, the concept offers an interesting look at the direction the brand could take as it develops its next generation of sports cars. By revisiting the A310, Alpine demonstrates how its heritage can inspire new ideas rather than simply being reproduced.

The combination of a low silhouette, muscular rear proportions, distinctive lighting and advanced aerodynamic styling shows how the original model’s identity can be adapted to contemporary design expectations.

Whether or not a production car emerges from the project, the A310 VISION makes a clear statement about Alpine’s design philosophy. The brand intends to preserve the simplicity, character and emotional appeal of its historic sports cars while exploring new possibilities for the future.

For enthusiasts of the original Alpine A310, the concept provides a compelling glimpse of what this French sports-car icon might look like if it were reinvented for the modern era.
